John Mecaslin Harrison III

A memorial mass for John M. Harrison, III, 67, of Tyler, will be held on Friday, December 19, 2014, at 2:00 PM at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Reverend Timothy Kelly will be officiating under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mr. Harrison went to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, December 10, 2014. John was born August 21, 1947, in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, to the late John M. Harrison, Jr., and Margaret Mary Rielly Harrison. John was preceded in death by his brother, Michael W. Harrison. He is survived by his loving family including wife Susie of Tyler; daughter Shelly Harrison Ayria of Tyler; son, Matt Harrison and wife Adriana of Rancho Palos Verdes, California; two grandsons, Kamron and Kobe Ayria of Tyler; one granddaughter Charlotte Harrison of Rancho Palos Verdes, California; sister Jane Spence and husband Perry of Tyler; and numerous nephews and nieces. John was a graduate of John Tyler High School and Texas A & M University in College Station, where he majored in Industrial Engineering. He was the epitome of a “self made” man beginning as a welding inspector for various companies, then piping inspection, which included working on the Alaskan pipeline and forming his own inspection company that led him to Edison International in Irvine, California, where he became interested in managing the construction of power plants. By this time, he was sometimes called “Rambo Harrison” for getting things done right! He spent 20 years in Southeast Asia managing the construction of projects in Paibon, Indonesia, Luzon, Philippines, Namtun II in Laos and a second project in Cirebon, Indonesia, where he had worked his way up the ladder to President Director of P. T. Cirebon Electric Power until he retired in 2010 and moved to Tyler to be near family. However, John’s greatest accomplishment was his love for his family and friends. He treated each person he met with kindness and respect. He will be forever missed by his family and friends and all who knew him.
