Martha Louise Murray

Services for Martha Murray, 91, of Tyler, will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 3232 Jan Avenue in Tyler, with Rev. Mitchell Tollett officiating. The visitation will begin at 9:00 AM, one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Restland Memorial Park of Dallas, 13005 Greenville Avenue on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 2:30 PM, under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Murray passed away Friday, February 10, 2017 in Tyler. She was born June 28, 1925 in Sherman to Cecil Anthony Halliday and Margaret Stover Halliday. Martha was a member of St Francis Episcopal Church of Tyler, and prior to that a longtime member of St John’s Episcopal Church of Dallas. She graduated from North Dallas High School where she was a twirler and a cheerleader with Lawrence Herkimer and a classmate of US District Judge Harold Barefoot Sanders, Jr. Martha had quite a unique life. She had the opportunity to meet Jack Benny and Bob Hope, to name a few. She even sang with the Bob Hope Band in Dallas and a Nashville Radio Show during WWII. An avid sports fan no matter what the sport but especially the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. Martha lived for her 3 beautiful granddaughters and each of them brought a special joy into her life. A special thanks to her mahjong, Rice Rd, and Stretford friends who opened their hearts to her and kept her laughing. Martha was preceded in death by her parents; mother, Margaret Palmer; stepfather, Myrl ‘Pete' Palmer and brother, Cecil Halliday, and husband, Norman Lee 'Bud' Murray. She is survived by her son, Mitchell Lee Murray of McKinney; daughter, Victoria 'Vicki' Smith and her husband J B Smith; grandchildren, Melissa Grubbs and husband JT, Heather Clay and husband Billy, Robyn Renick and husband Matt; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Gage, Caden, Kennedy, and Reece; also, her loving cousin, Raymond Mislock and wife Peggy and their children and grandchildren. Pallbearers will be JT Grubbs, Billy Clay, Matt Renick, Michael Mislock, Steven Mislock, Robbie Smith, and Danny Smith. Special thanks to the loving care provided by ETMC, The Heights and her doctors Dr Frank Reuter, Dr Edwin Duncan, and Dr Evans Smith.
