Adele C. Johnson

A funeral Mass for Adele Bacile Johnson, 89, of Tyler will be held Friday, September 13, at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with the Very Reverend Hank Lanik officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Adele passed away on September 10, 2024, after a long and fulfilling life. She was born on January 22, 1935, in Tyler to the late Sheban Joseph and Milady Khoury Bacile. She is survived by her sons, Tony Johnson and wife Deborah of Arlington, TX and Mark Johnson and wife Billie of Coppell, TX. Adele had one grandson, Ryan Johnson, of Carrollton, TX and many nieces and nephews that she cherished. She loved her family fiercely and was so proud of all their accomplishments. Adele was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, John; four brothers, Ellis Bacile, Joseph Bacile, William Bacile, and Namie Bacile and wife Chris; and two sisters, Elizabeth Bacile Findlay and husband Richard, and Beatrice Bacile. Adele was the baby of her family and was loved to be spoiled. She married John in 1957 and he continued spoiling her after they were married. Always confident in her opinions, she had a heart of gold and would support her friends and family through thick and thin. She was there to offer love, prayers or advice. Playing cards and games with her girlfriends and catching up on the latest community news was one of Adele’s favorite past times. She loved a garden, but preferred for John to take care of it. She was proud of her Lebanese heritage and supported the Lebanese community in Tyler. She worked tirelessly for The Cedars of Lebanon and was a past president. Although cooking was not her favorite activity, she loved making Lebanese food for family and friends . . . and everyone left with a to-go box to enjoy again later. She taught many family members and friends how to make grape leaves, tabouleh and kibbe. Adele was an active member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception her entire life. She loved her church and was faithful to its teachings. She also loved the Tyler community and volunteered serving those in need. She was a long time participant in Eucharistic Adoration at her church. She was a past member of The Cathedral Altar Society. She was also very active with the Boy Scouts and served as Committee Chair for Troup 333. She started her career as an airline hostess for Trans-Tex Airlines. She worked for numerous doctors’ offices and eventually started her own business offering medical claims filing services. She and John also worked together to build and sell many homes in Tyler. Visitation is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway in Tyler. Rosary will follow at 7 pm. Pallbearers will be Walter Findlay, David Johnson, Jimmy Johnson, Kenny Johnson, Mike Johnson, Patrick Johnson, Stephen Johnson, and Paul Procell. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Newberry, Mark Robertson, Danny Saleh, and Ron Schumacher. The family wishes to thank her caregivers Sophia Sheppard, Diane Williams, Margaret Williams, Rebecca Washington and Barbara Barron and the Hospice of East Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul, Tyler Catholic School Foundation – John and Adele Johnson Scholarship or the charity of your choice.
