Ann Williams Schwartz

Our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 12, 2011. Ann was born on August 31, 1922 in Crandall, TX to Clarence and Pauline Fowler Williams. As a child she was very close to her maternal grandparents, John Henry and Susanna Greenway Fowler, who also lived in Crandall. Her grandparents and later, her own family, moved to Arlington, TX, where her father worked at North Texas Agricultural College and she attended elementary and high school. After graduating high school, Ann attended NTAC where she met the love of her life, Bobby Ingle Schwartz, son of Johnny and Juanita Ingle Schwartz of Palmer, TX. They were married on November 28, 1942. They soon moved to College Station, TX where Bob attended Texas A & M College studying petroleum engineering. Bob’s college education was interrupted by World War II when he was called to service by the US Army Corps of Engineers. While Bob was over seas in Europe, Ann lived with her parents in Arlington, where her son Robert Michael was born in 1945. Following the War and Bob’s discharge from the Army, they moved back to College Station where he continued his schooling. Bob graduated with a degree in petroleum engineering in 1946, and took a job with Shell Oil Company, his first assignment being in Louisiana. Their daughter, Patricia Ann, was born in Fort Worth, TX in 1948. Ann was a loving and dedicated Christian wife, mother and home maker, and was active in the many Baptist churches they joined as they were transferred by Shell to different locations over the years. During Bob’s career with Shell they lived in many places, including Texas, Louisiana, California, New York, Netherlands and Australia. Of the many places they lived, her favorite by far was Australia. She especially loved the travel that the Australia assignment offered and she and Bob traveled widely and often. She loved her life with her best friend, Bob, who passed away much too young in Houston, TX in 1979, leaving Ann as a relatively young widow. Through great spiritual strength and determination to learn the financial and upkeep aspects of running her household in Houston, she soon adapted to living alone and thrived, much to the credit of her love for gardening and her church activity where she was a great friend to many over the years. She decided to move to Tyler in 1983, a place where she and Bob had talked of living after his retirement, and where her daughter’s family and her sisters lived, and immediately became a very active member of the Green Acres Baptist Church. She especially enjoyed outreach to the elderly and for many years was a dedicated and faithful visitor to residents of area retirement and nursing homes, and to people who were hospitalized. She made many good friends in her church, especially her Sunday School class, and she loved singing in the seniors choir. Ann was a resident of Atria Willow Park Assisted Living for several years and resided at Briarcliff when she passed away. Ann is survived by two children: Patricia Ann Baker and husband Ken of Tyler and Robert Michael Schwartz and wife Ginny of Mt. Pleasant, SC. She is also survived by five grand children of whom her pride was always evident: Kyle Timothy Baker and wife Missy of Dallas; Cody James Baker and wife Emily, also of Dallas; Kate Baker Lane and husband Ryan of Houston; Allison Schwartz Bradley and husband Rod, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and Emily Schwartz Daniels and husband Coby, also of Mt. Pleasant, SC. Her grand children have given her among them eight great grand children whom she was always thrilled to see and enjoy at every opportunity! Ann is also survived by her brother and two sisters: George Williams and Sue Raney, both of Tyler, and Pat Keyte of Arlington, TX. Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 afternoon at Stewart Family Funeral Home in Tyler. The funeral service will be held at Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at the Palmer Cemetery in Palmer.
