Beatrice Shieldes

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 3:30 pm, Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for Beatrice Zwan Shieldes, 83, of Tyler with Monsignor Joseph Strickland, JCL and Rev. Joseph Nasser, S.J. officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery under direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Shieldes passed away Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005 in Tyler. Beatrice was born to the late Beshara M. and Adele Reggie Zwan on May 2, 1922 in Crowley, Louisiana. She is a graduate of St. Michael's High School in Crowley, Louisiana where she began a lifelong commitment to Catholic Schools. Bea was a member of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of America, the Ladies Altar Society, and the Cedars of Lebanon Club. She served as past president of Catholic Mother's Club and the Tyler Catholic School Board. Bea was the co-founder of the Mother's Club Christmas Bazaar and Bake sale retiring after 36 years of service. During her retirement years she enjoyed fishing with her sisters, cooking for her family and playing Bingo with numerous friends. Bea is survived by her loving family including her husband of 56 years, Dr. Berman F. Shieldes; children, Dan Shieldes, Tim Shieldes and John Shieldes; daughter, Kathy Shieldes Harry and Husband Kent; grandchildren, Stephanie Landrum, Jason Shieldes, Carrie Moore, Ashley Miller, Gregory Harry and Rebecca Harry; sister, Shirley Kamel of Tyler; brother, Edward Zwan of Fayetteville, NC; sister-in-law, Rose Zwan of Houston; and six great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Dan Shieldes, Tim Shieldes, John Shieldes, Jason Shieldes, Kent Harry and Gregory Harry. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Bryan Zwan, George Naman, Paul Naman, Michael Kamel, Paul Reggie, Chris Moore, Shane Miller, John L. Johnson, Charles Khan, Jr. and Michael Mahfood. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 pm Friday at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Hwy., south Tyler 75703. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in honor of Mrs. Shieldes to St. Gregory Catholic School, 500 S. College, Tyler, Texas 75702.
