Betty Nokes

Services for Betty Nokes, 82, of Tyler will be held Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Tyler with Rev. Scott Wylie officiating . Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home of Tyler. Visitation is scheduled for 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler. Betty Nokes passed away April 22, 2011 at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler. She was deeply loved by her husband and family and will be dearly missed. Betty was born November 26, 1928 in Ft. Worth, to Condie and Beulah Roberts. She married her husband, Troy Nokes, April 7, 1956 in Ft. Worth. She was the love of Troy’s life and they were blessed with 55 years of marriage. After Betty and Troy were married they lived in the Ft. Worth-Dallas area for several years until transferring to Tyler. Betty was a member of the Tyler Realtors Association and worked as a Realtor for Guy Sparkman Realty, Helen Campbell Realty, Rozell Barrett Realty, and Century 21 Realty. Betty became a Real Estate Broker and owned Betty Nokes Realty. She remained in business until her retirement in 2000. Betty loved helping others. She devoted her time to participating in numerous community services. She was president of the Newcomers Club of Tyler, president of Tyler Civitans Club, where she was awarded “Civitan of the Year” in 1992-1993, presented the Tyler Civitan Club’s Honor Key and made a FELLOW in the Civitans International Foundation. Betty was active in the Tyler Civitan East Texas Fair Food Booth project, Adopt A Highway project, and volunteered in the local and international Special Olympics. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Tyler for over 49 years and a member of the Magnifiers Sunday School Class. She also enjoyed many years answering the church prayer line. Betty loved and adored her family. She especially enjoyed visiting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There are not any words that can express how deeply she will be missed by her family and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Condie Ray Roberts, of Ft. Worth. Betty is survived by her loving husband, Troy Nokes of Tyler, daughter, Connie Taylor and husband Ron of Tyler, son, John Nokes of Whitehouse, grandson Tim Taylor and wife Samantha of Tyler, grandson Todd Taylor and wife Monica of Tyler, grandson Chris Ogden of Georgetown, granddaughter, Ally McNeal and husband James of College Station, grandson Jonathan Nokes of Lake Dallas, granddaughter Katie Nokes of Payne Springs, and 8 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Pat Roberts of Ft. Worth, and brother-in-law Clyde Nokes of Corsicana. Pallbearers are Tim Taylor, Todd Taylor, Jonathan Nokes, Chris Odgen, Sam Dickerson, Gene Easterwood, and James Godwin. Honorary pallbearers will be the First Baptist Church of Tyler Fishermen’s Sunday School Class.
