Bob Holden

A dear, sweet man, who will be missed, passed away quietly August 5, 2009, at his current residence in Garland, Texas. We feel sure that he is very pleased to be reunited and enjoying walks once again with his beloved Nettie Ruth Barbie, who he lost in 2007 after 64 years of marriage. Bob was born September 26, 1922 in Seattle, Washington, to Jack and Cora Stolt and lived in that area until WW II brought him to Tyler for Radio Operator School. During his assignment at Camp Fannin, the lovebirds met on a blind date and a few years later made Tyler their home, until 2006. Bob was a U.S. Army Staff Sergeant with the 114th Signal Radio Intelligence Company and participated in the Ardennes, Battle of the Bulge and Rhineland operations. He was employed by T.B. Butler Publishing of Tyler for 38 years but most proud of his 40 year association with the East Texas Fair and other fairs and festivals around the country in his second career. The “Little Jewel” concession provided the couple an opportunity to work together and spend delightful free time with dear old friends, worldly travels and their loving family. He is survived by sons; Lee Holden and wife Debbie of Crosby, Lon Holden and wife Rebecca of Round Rock, Dale Holden and wife Melissa of Louisville, KY.; daughter, Sherry Hansford and husband Charles of Richardson, as well as 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family wishes to express a sincere gratitude to Autumn Leaves Assisted Living of Garland for their loving concern; Baylor Regional Medical Center of Plano for their caring professionalism and Hospice Compassus of Dallas for their comforting support. A family gathering will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, August 7, 2009 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Hwy, Tyler, Texas 75703. A graveside service at Rose Hill Cemetery will be held Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 9:30 AM under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Tate officiating.
