Bonney Bradley

Bonney Yerger Hogan Bradley, aged 90, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2011 in Tyler, Texas surrounded by her three loving children. She was born May 30, 1921 in Starkville, Mississippi to Alberta Kimball Ames Hogan and William Augustus Hogan. A graduate of Starkville High School and Mississippi State University, she was married on October 6, 1942 to her college sweetheart, John Lindsey Bradley, MD. They shared a life of travel and service to their country, living abroad and throughout the United States during his career as a U.S. Army Medical Corps physician. They enjoyed tours of duty in Germany, Washington, DC, New Mexico, California and other posts before Colonel Bradley’s retirement from the military to head the State of Texas Department of Public Health District based in El Paso, Texas, where they lived for 20 years before moving to Tyler in 1992. Bonney was the beloved mother of three children, grandmother of four, and great-grandmother of four. As a loving and dedicated homemaker, she liked to cook and garden, enjoyed sewing, entertaining, and involvement in her children’s activities. As a volunteer, she gave time to the Methodist Church and organizations ranging from PTA and Scouting to Meals on Wheels. She loved music, theater, dance, reading, history, playing bridge, and was an avid sports fan, particularly devoted to the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Mavericks. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority, Litera Literary Club, PEO, and The Women’s Club of El Paso. She supported women’s ministries at Western Hills Methodist Church in El Paso and Marvin United Methodist Church in Tyler. Her greatest joy was spending time with her husband and family, and she created a wonderful legacy of memories and traditions to be carried on by her children and grandchildren, who will miss MomMom dearly. Bonney was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, John. She is survived by her loving children: son John Lindsey Bradley, Jr. and wife Vicki of Bullard, Texas; daughter Catherine (Cathy) Ames Bradley of Tyler, Texas; and son William Everett Bradley of Dallas, Texas. Her grandchildren are Dr. John Carter Bradley and his wife Ashley of Longmont, Colorado; Elizabeth Bradley Jouett of Southlake, Texas; Dr. Evan Alexander Howard of Austin, Texas; and Kelty Elizabeth Wickham and her husband Robert of Houston, Texas. Great-grandchildren are Jack and Carter Jouett and Campbell and Helene Bradley. Bonney was preceded in death by her parents; her twin sister Alberta Hogan Smith of Canton, Mississippi; sisters Mary Hogan Davis, Jane Hogan Pittman, and Camille Hogan Davis of Jackson, Mississippi; and brother William Augustus Hogan, Jr. of Hope, Arkansas. Private services and burial are being held for family and invited friends. A tribute and celebration of her long and loving life is planned for a later date.
