Carol Ann Coon Smith

Carol Ann Coon Smith, 89, of Tyler, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Stewart Family Funeral Home with Dr. Mark Price officiating. Interment will follow at Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery. Carol passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, in Tyler. She was born on June 5, 1936, in Jacksonville, Texas, to Maggie Irene Ragsdale Coon and Rubert Wilton Coon. Carol was raised in Cushing, Texas, and graduated from Henderson High School in 1954. After graduation, she attended Tyler Commercial College. In 1958, she met the love of her life, Kenneth Smith, and together they built a life centered on faith, family, and service. The couple first attended Fair Park Baptist Church near the fairgrounds in Tyler before becoming devoted members of Central Baptist Church, where they began raising their family in 1963. In 1989, Carol and Kenneth moved to Oakwood, where Kenneth served as postmaster. They later returned to Tyler and became faithful members of Southside Baptist Church for many years. Carol faithfully served in the church library there and was deeply involved in the church community. Carol dedicated much of her life to serving others, both through her church and her career. She worked as the school secretary at Dixie Elementary School from 1973 until 1987, where she was known for her kindness and dedication. She had a lifelong love of reading and flowers and found joy in life’s simple beauties. Carol is survived by her sons, David Smith and wife Karol of Keller, Daniel Smith and wife Robin of Whitehouse, and Dee Smith of Whitehouse; sister-in-law, Sylvia Coon of Whitehouse; grandchildren, Hope Edwards and husband Matt of Whitehouse, Payton Smith of Austin, McKenlee Smith and wife Alexandra of Whitehouse, Drew Smith of Bullard, Tanner Garza and Madison Frye of Chandler, and Tristan Smith, Tucker Smith, and Teagan Smith, all of Whitehouse; and great-grandchildren, Smith Edwards, Forest and Murphy Smith, and Holden Frye Garza. Pallbearers will be Don Coon, Payton Smith, McKenlee Smith, Drew Smith, Tanner Garza, Tucker Smith, and Teagan Smith. Visitation is scheduled from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Stewart Family Funeral Home.
