Carolyn "Sue" Boyd

Carolyn Sue Boyd “Sue”, 78, went to be with the Lord, peacefully passing on October 29, 2021, in Tyler, TX. Sue was born in Amarillo, TX on August 27, 1943, and moved to Lubbock, TX where she attended and graduated from Monterey High School, attended Texas Tech University and then Oklahoma University where she graduated with a BA in Education. Sue started her teaching career in Hereford, TX where she taught Texas History at Hereford High School. She later moved back to Lubbock where she taught at Evans Junior High and then Matthews Junior High. At 47 she decided to become a nurse and attended and graduated from South Plains College with an Associates Degree in Nursing and went on to work as the charge nurse at Crosbyton Hospital and then school nurse at Paint Rock High School in Paint Rock, TX and at Olfen ISD. Sue filled her life with love of our Savior, family, friends, cooking, reading, entertaining, and serving others. She served as a school board member for Paint Rock ISD and assisted in teaching a women’s Sunday School class for many years. As the wife of a coach, she was always ready and willing to serve on a moment’s notice regardless of the challenge, invariably leaving things better than when she found them. She gave generously to Paralyzed Veterans of American and to the Wounded Warrior Project among other charities dear to her. These works of love exemplified a life well lived. Sue was preceded in death by her mother, Gertrude G. Hill; father, Robert A. Hill, Jr.; sister, Sylvia K. Blackstock; and her grandson, Arthur “Abe” B. Lowder whom she stated frequently she was eager to see again in Heaven. Sue is survived by her loving husband Samuel P. Boyd to whom she was married for over 29 years; sons, Thomas J. Lowder and wife Ann, of Missoula, Montana, Stephen L. Lowder and wife Cindy, of Chicago, Illinois, Michael C. Lowder and wife Kellie, of Ft. Worth; brothers-in-law, Gaylon (Marilyn) Boyd, Gary (Terri) Boyd, Tony (Margie) Boyd; sister-in-law, Thelma K. “Kittye” Erickson (Larry); nephews, Mark A. Blackstock (Karmen) and Scott E. Blackstock; grandchildren, Maclean C. Lowder, Grace E. Lowder, Sean R. Lowder, Joseph T. Lowder and Jane C. Lowder. Celebration of Life on November 5, 2021 at Noonday Baptist Church, 16701 County Road 196, Tyler, TX 75703. Visitation at 10 am and Service at 11 am.
