Carolyn Richards

Carolyn Nevell Roach Richards was born August 9, 1937, in Trinity County, TX to Frank K. Roach and Thelma Standley Roach. She died October 20, 2011 in Tyler, TX Carolyn Richards grew up in Lufkin, TX and attended North Texas State College, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1958. While at North Texas she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. In 1957 she met Richard T. Richards, Jr. at a fraternity mix. They were married in 1958. The first 12 years of their marriage Carolyn & Richard lived in Dallas, TX. She taught school for 3 years in the Dallas Public Schools. After her son Carter was born in 1960, she became a stay at home mom. Daughter Margaret was born in 1963. In 1971 the family moved to Farmington, MI, living there for 21 years. Upon her husband’s retirement in 1991, they moved back to Texas, settling in the community of Horseshoe Bay. They lived in Horseshoe Bay for 16 plus years, enjoying retirement and making many wonderful and loyal friends. In 2007 they moved to Tyler to be closer to their children. Carolyn was an avid reader, an accomplished cook, and enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved her cookbooks and perusing the many recipes she could find in various magazines and newspapers. She was also very good at crossword puzzles and enjoyed putting puzzles together with her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank & Thelma Roach, sister Millie Ann Kolb, and granddaughter Katherine Jane Banta. Carolyn is survived by her husband, Richard of Tyler, TX, son Robert Carter Richards of Grand Prairie, TX, daughter and son-in-law Margaret & Jon Banta of Tyler, TX, sister Marie Lankford of Denton, TX, grandchildren Ashly Nevell Banta of Addison, TX, Kristin Lee Richards of Grand Prairie, TX, and Rebecca Drew Richards of Grand Prairie, TX, niece Carol Ann and Nick Sample of Tyler, TX, niece Pamela and Jerry Phelps of Center, TX, nephew Richard and Karen Sutton of League City, TX, nephew Russell & Donna Sutton of Pearland, TX, nephew Jeff and Linda Lankford of Pollock, TX, niece Gail Masters of Galveston, TX, niece Mille Ann and John Reid of Denton, TX, and nephew David Kolb of Durango, CO, plus many great nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Stewart Funeral Home in Tyler on Saturday, November 12, 2011, at 3:00 PM with Chaplain Mike Thomas officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
