Services for Charles Richard “Rick” Hurst Jr., 60, of Tyler, will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church down town in the sanctuary with Rev. Scott Richardson officiating. Burial will follow at Cathedral in the Pines in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Rick passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at The Hospice of East Texas in Tyler. He was born July 24, 1956 in Houston to Dr. Charles Richard “Dick” Hurst, Sr. and Jesmarie Harvey Hurst. Rick was a member of First Baptist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher. He was also involved in the Children’s Ministry at Northwest Bible Church in Dallas, where his daughter and her family have membership. He really enjoyed volunteering at Smith County Juvenile Detention Center as he taught troubled youth about Jesus’ love. Rick excelled at ophthalmic equipment sales for 30 years and received honors such as the Top National Salesman. He loved his work and valued his relationships with doctors and nurses all over the country. He was a pheasant hunting and dog training enthusiast, enjoyed catching a 12 foot hammerhead shark while deep sea fishing, loved golf, waterskiing, snow skiing and coaching his daughter’s basketball team. Most of all Rick cherished his family and adored his grandchildren. He graduated from the University of Texas at Tyler with a Bachelor of Arts in business marketing. He is survived by his loving family including his daughter, Lauren Hurst Heffelfinger and husband Dan of Dallas; grandchildren, Wyatt Heffelfinger and Madie Faith Heffelfinger; his brothers, Dan Hurst and wife Beverly and Allen Hurst and wife Mary Kathryn, all of Tyler; niece, Heather Hurst Collum and husband Carter of Spring; nephew, Hans Hurst of Tyler; nephews, Matthew Hurst and Stuart Hurst; niece, Hayley Hurst; and great nieces, Callie Collum, Madison Collum and Mackenzie Collum. Pallbearers are Carter Collum, Dan Heffelfinger, Dan Hurst, Hans Hurst, Lee Loper, Mike McGowen and Mark Sloan. Honorary pallbearers are his dad, the late Dr. Dick Hurst, Sr., his mother, the late Jesmarie Hurst and his Pop, the late Walter P. Hurst. Visitation is scheduled from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, October 3, 2016 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.
