Clefton Scott

On January 28, 2009, God decided the time had come for Clefton H. Scott, Jr. to join his parents, Opal Scott and Clefton H. Scott, Sr. and his brother, Billy Joe Scott in Heaven. Clefton was born on October 22, 1936 in Kilgore, Texas. He attended Kilgore High School and Kilgore Junior College before attending the University of Texas and later earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Houston. Clefton spent some time in the Army after attending UT and was stationed at Fort Dix. For many years, Clefton was a Claims Superintendent with State Farm Insurance Company. He was an avid and skilled fisherman, competing in tournaments throughout Texas as well as two professional B.A.S.S tournaments. Fishing was a skill taught to him by his grandfather. He would often recall those days as a child fishing with him. Clefton spent much of his life fighting a battle against heart disease. He overcame overwhelming obstacles including two heart attacks and a heart transplant. Throughout this long fight he always kept his gentle sense of humor, his concern for others and his unfaltering will to live. He will be remembered for his gentle and caring manner towards his family and all those who were fortunate enough to know him. His compassionate spirit extended beyond people. Clefton had a soft spot in his heart for animals as well. His friends and family remember his daily trips to the marina on Lake Conroe to feed the ducks or how much he loved his dogs. Clefton is survived by his loving wife, Peggy of Tyler; his sons Ryan Scott and fiancé Christy of Beaumont and Derek Scott and wife Jennifer of Houston; his stepsons David Trich and wife Rebecca of Billings, Montana, Bryan Trich and wife Jackie of Richmond, Kentucky and Kyle Trich and wife Leslie of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his sister Evelyn Skinner of Harrisburg, Arkansas; grandchildren, Eric Trich, Kyla Trich, Laurel Trich and Zachary Trich; great-grandchild, Jesse Fulmer; nephews, Patrick Skinner and Brandon Skinner; and niece, Jennifer Morrow. To his loving wife he was Clef, to his grandchildren he was Papa Clef and to his sons, he was Dad. He will be missed by all touched by his life. Services will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Marvin United Methodist Church with Dr. Doug Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Cemetery in Kilgore under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home in Tyler. Pallbearers will be Bob Myers, Bob Clark, Jerry Johnson, Dale Leath, Aubrey Lewis, and A. C. Stutler. Honorary Pallbearers will be Larry Hickman, Phil Summers, Hugh Autry, Max Rhinehart, Frank Shal, and Vernon Dean.
