Services for Clifton L. "Sonny" Stansell, 62 of Tyler, will be held on Friday, May 30, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Christian Teaching Center, 2121 North Broadway, where Pastor Flora J. Cobb is the senior pastor and Minister Michael Allen is officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. He was born December 3, 1945, in Overton to the late Pelton L. and Charity Spencer Stansell. Mr. Stansell passed away Monday, May 26, 2008 at Hospice of East Texas. Mr. Stansell attended Douglas Elementary School in Tyler, TX, Arp High School in Arp, TX, Texas College in Tyler, TX, and Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, TX, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics. He was a member of El Bethel Baptist Church from an early age and later a member of Browning Memorial IME. Mr. Stansell was a founding member of Christian Teaching Center, where he served faithfully since the inception of the ministry. Mr. Stansell was employed by Tyler Pipe Foundry, Southern Aluminum Foundry, Brookshire's Grocery, and retired from Exxon/Mobil Oil Company after 30 years of committed service. Mr. Stansell served in the U.S. Army from 1966-1968 and received several awards including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Service Star, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. In addition to his parents, Mr. Stansell is preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence Stansell, and sister, Iola H. Wilson. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Patricia Ann Harper Stansell of Tyler, TX; daughter, Nikol A. Stansell Nabors of Tyler, TX; sons, Nicholas A. Stansell of Humble, TX, and Brian D. Stansell of Tyler, TX; brothers Eargle P. Stansell of Lynwood, CA, Charles Stansell of North Highland, CA, Osborne Stansell of Compton, CA, and Ross Stansell of Whitehouse, TX; sisters Rosie Halton, Olevia Robertson, Shirley Coleman, Patricia Barrett, all of Tyler, TX, and Carol Smith of LaMarque, TX; and six grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Glenn Austin, Keith Smith, Major Martin, Kenneth Cobb, Kenneth Wallace, and Lonnie Cobb. Honorary Pallbearers will be Walter Smith, Jr., Benjamin Robertson, Tony Wilson, Hardy Nabors, Glynn Cobb, Bobby Smith, Larry Harper and Frank Halton.
