David Strickland

A celebration of life service for David O. Strickland, 65, of Hideaway will be held on Friday, October 21, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Marvin United Methodist Church with Dr. John Robbins officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mr. Strickland passed away, October 18, 2011 at Mother Francis Hospital in Tyler. David was born January 15, 1946 in Jacksonville, Florida to Odell and Nettie Strickland. He was raised and went to school in Kingsland, Georgia where he was the quarterback for the state champion football team. David graduated from Brigham Young University and then received his Masters degree in Physical Therapy from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Upon graduation, David opened a private practice in physical therapy and later a consulting business in general injury prevention. While in California, David married Darlene in 1992. They moved to the East Texas area in 1996 where David was the rehab supervisor for Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview as well as a physical therapist contractor for various home health agencies. David was a very athletic person who enjoyed playing organized adult baseball and ice hockey. He loved a good game of golf as well as hunting and being outdoors. David attended Marvin United Methodist Church and Hideaway Community Church on a regular basis. David is survived by his loving family including his wife of 19 years, Darlene Strickland of Hideaway; sons, Mark, David, Jonathan, and Steven Strickland; daughters, Sharilyn Evans, Michelle DeMille, Julia Thomas, Angela Jones, Tiffany Foulger and Bridgette Thompson; mother-in-law, Linda Hughes of Tyler; sister-in-law, Debbie Hughes of Forney; niece, Brittany Ardito of Rockwall and nephew Nick Hughes of Forney. He is also survived by a sister and 33 grandchildren. Visitation will be from 12:00-3:00 PM, Friday, October 21 with the family present from 1:00 -2:00 PM at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Hwy., in Tyler.
