Dovie Carnahan

Dovie Meadows Carnahan, age 83 went to be with our Lord in the loving arms of her husband and daughter while at their farm near Garden Valley, Texas Saturday morning, June 20, 2009. She was born January 26, 1926 to parents B.F. Meadows and Claudia Shilling Meadows in Oenaville, Texas, near Temple. Services will be held at Pollard Memorial United Methodist Church, Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at 10:00 AM, under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home with Rev. Rob Fisher and Rev. Richard Luna officiating. Dovie graduated from Temple High School in 1943 and the University of Texas in 1948. While working at Texas Power & Light she met her future husband Jay Carnahan and they were married June 2, 1951 in Temple. In 1952 they moved to Abilene where Jay took a job with Schlumberger Well Services. They then moved to various places including Graham, Corpus Christi and Tyler. She loved each move and made friends easily. She was a Methodist, a long time member of Pollard Memorial United Methodist Church and taught the 3-year old Sunday school class for 30 years. She loved to help others and for many years was a Meals on Wheels volunteer in Tyler. She and her husband loved to travel in their RV. They were members of the Rose Ramblers R.V. club and enjoyed the many club trips. Their most memorable were two trips they made driving to Alaska, one in 1997 and the other in 2001. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Eleanor Walker of Waco. Dovie is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jay Carnahan and their 3 children, daughter Diane Carnahan of Plano, sons, Jeffrey Carnahan of Houston and John Carnahan of Las Colinas. She is also survived by niece Debbie Andrle and husband William of Ross; nephew Mark Walker and wife Milbry and their two daughters of Austin; sister-in-law Ruth Carnahan of Waco; cousins Virgil Shilling and Pallie Dearman of Houston; Carl Shilling of Silsbee and David Shilling of Harker Heights. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 23, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be A.J. Triggs, Larry Whitaker, Cliff Hughes, Charlie Smith, Bill Flanagan and Herschel Tipton. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s Bible Class at Pollard UMC.
