Duane Gilbert

Services for Albert “Duane” Gilbert, 73, of Flint, will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home with Rev. Park Robertson officiating. Burial will follow Monday, July 24, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at DFW National Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mr. Gilbert passed away Monday, July 3, 2023 in Tyler. He was born October 16, 1949 in Seminole, TX to George Walter Gilbert and Ima Shamburger Gilbert. Duane graduated from Lindale High School and UT Tyler. He was a past Lieutenant Governor of the Optimist International NTX District; a 39-year Mason- member of Mason Tyler Lodge #1233 AF&AM and a Shriner with Sharon Shrine Temple. He was awarded for his dedication to the Volunteer Apheresis Donor Program of Stewart Regional Blood Center. He was a member of Flint Baptist Church. He retired from Trane after many years of dedicated service and was a US Navy veteran and served during the Vietnam war. Duane was preceded in death by his parents and an infant grandson, Joseph Black. He is survived by his loving family including his wife, Joy Owens Gilbert; son, Jonathan Gilbert and wife, Sayward of Virginia Beach, VA; daughters, Michelle Gilbert Black and husband, Steve of Tyler, TX and Sheri Gilbert Leal of Tyler, TX; grandchildren, Daniel Black of Fayetteville, AR and Grace Leal of Tyler, TX; stepsons, Kevin W. Gilbert of Denton, TX, R. Mark Gilbert and wife, Renee of Flint, TX and S. Clay Gilbert and wife, Kristen Gilbert of Summerville, GA; 9 step-grandchildren, Kieffer Gilbert and wife, Sarah Gilbert of Little Elm, TX; Jacob Gilbert, U.S. Navy of Yokosuka, Japan, and Joshua Gilbert, U.S. Navy of San Diego, CA, Bryan, Hannah, and Brandon Gilbert of Summerville, GA; Taylor Gilbert of Denton, TX, Gracyn and Addison Gilbert of Flint, TX; 3 step-great-grandchildren, Luke, Levi, and Ava Gilbert of Little Elm, TX; brother, Ken Gilbert and wife, Jill of Smithdale, MS; sister, Charlotte Pierce and husband, James of Gladewater, TX; nieces, nephew and other family. Visitation is scheduled from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway in Tyler.
