Funeral Mass for Elaine Margaret Lanier, 74, of Tyler is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Tyler with Monsignor Joseph Strickland officiating. Burial will be in Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home in Tyler. Mrs. Lanier died April 19, 2009, in a Tyler hospital. She was born June 9, 1934, in Marlborough, Mass., to James Joseph and Mary Esther (Boswell) Cunningham. She graduated from the Wyndham School in Boston, Mass., and worked for the State Department in Frankfort, Germany, where she met her husband who was serving in the Army. After they moved to Tyler, they began their family and Elaine became a stay-at-home mother with seven children. After the youngest child began school, she earned an associate’s degree at TJC and retired from Carrier as an administrative assistant after 18 years of service. Mrs. Lanier was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Tyler. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, James M. Cunningham; sisters, Kathleen M. Grant, Margaret “Peggy” Cunningham and Mary C. Cunningham; and a son, Michael A. Lanier. Mrs. Lanier is survived by her loving family including her husband, Clinton M. Lanier, Tyler; sons, Mark Lanier and Jim Lanier, both of Tyler, and Steve Lanier and wife Dawn, Austin; daughters, Cathy and husband Mac McAlister, Flower Mound, Mary Dunning, Tyler, and Carol and husband Jason Woodruff, Tyler; grandchildren, Dustin and Missy Umphress, Clint McAlister, Ashley Dunning, Bryan and Nicholas Wynn, Chris and Matt Lanier, and Christina and John Cowan; great-granddaughter, Madison McAlister; sister-in-law, Maria Cunningham, Colchester, Conn.; brother-in-law, Roy Grant, Barhamsville, Va.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Royce and Ann Lanier, Tyler; nephews, Jim Cunningham, Santa Clara, Calif., Pat Cunningham, Albuquerque, N.M., and Joe Cunningham, Norwich, Conn.; and numerous extended family members and friends. Visitation will be 6-7 p.m., Tuesday, April 21, 2009 and rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, Tyler.
