Emma Loretta "Rheta" York

Services for Rheta York are scheduled for Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 4:00 PM in the Green Acres Baptist Church Chapel in Tyler with Dr. David Dykes, Senior Pastor of Green Acres Baptist Church, and Stephen Carrell, Associate Pastor of Worship and Music at Park Cities Baptist Church of Dallas, officiating. Private family interment will follow, under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service at 3:30 pm in the Chapel and afterward. Mrs. York died on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at The Hospice of East Texas HomePlace following a lengthy illness. She was born to Grover and Nancy Blalock on November 7, 1930, in Mt. Sylvan, and has lived in Tyler all of her adult life. She attended Lindale schools graduating in 1947 and Tyler Junior College. She was a full-time homemaker and was always active in the community serving in numerous capacities in Tyler City Council of PTA’s, Tyler Council of Garden Clubs, First Baptist Church and Green Acres Baptist Church. She greatly enjoyed activities and volunteering in recent years at TASCA. Rheta was admired for her creative talents including floral design, china painting, sewing, cooking, maintaining a beautiful yard and decorating for events of all kinds. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Jerry York; her parents, Grover and Nancy Blalock; sister, Beatrice Gradick and brothers, G.C. Blalock and Joe Blalock. Surviving to honor her memory are daughters and sons-in-law, Jana and Ronnie Humphrey, and Brenda and Dean Cagle; grandchildren, Will and Amy Cagle, Leslie (Humphrey) and Russell Perkins and Catherine (Cagle) and Alex Hammond; great grandchildren, Hattie York Hammond, Coleman Dean Cagle and Libby Marie Cagle, Vivienne Estelle Perkins and Charles Blalock Hammond with her sixth great grandchild due in January; sister in law, Martha Blalock, of Tyler, many nieces and nephews and precious friends. The family wishes to express heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Eric Smith, Melissa Black and the staff at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Manhatton Clinic for many years of wonderful care to her and our Daddy and to the staff of The Hospice of East Texas HomePlace for their kind and compassionate care in her final days.
