Estelle Hooper

Services for Estelle Hooper, 88, of Tyler will be held on Friday, August 8, 2008 at 3:00 PM at Stewart Family Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Luna officiating. A private family burial will follow. Mrs. Hooper passed away on August 7, 2008 in Tyler. She was born on July 21, 1920 in Houston to the late James and Mollie Clayton. She was raised in Houston and attended the University of Houston where she was selected Miss Vanity Fair for two consecutive years. Estelle married her high school sweetheart, Hilton Hooper, in 1943 and worked alongside him in his dental practice for 37 years. They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary before his death in 2006. Estelle had the pleasure of playing the violin in the Houston Symphony Orchestra. She was a charter member of Pollard United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities including the United Methodist Women’s Organization. She was also a member of the Smith County Dental Wives Auxiliary. “Nonie” as she was lovingly called by her grandchildren and others, will be remembered for her beautiful smile, sense of humor, and her welcoming nature to everyone she met. Estelle was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking, fishing, and mostly spending time with her children and grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hooper was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Hilton Arthur Hooper and her brother, Floyd Rutledge Clayton. She is survived by a loving family including two sons, Dr. James Hooper and Dr. Raymon Hooper and wife Sunday, all of Tyler; two grandsons, Justin Hooper and wife Kate, Jonathan Hooper and wife Lori; one granddaughter, Haleigh Hooper; two great-grandsons, Brantley Jon Hooper, and Brayden Harrison Hooper; and one great-granddaughter, Caroline Elizabeth Hooper. Visitation is scheduled prior to the service on Friday beginning at 1:30 PM at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, Tyler, Texas 75703. Memorials in honor of Estelle Hooper may be made to Pollard United Methodist Church Foundation, 3030 Copeland Road, Tyler, Texas 75701.
