Fred G. Miller

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, Fred Glenn Miller, 83, of Whitehouse passed away Friday, November 28, 2025, in Longview. He was born in Eastland, Texas on February 6, 1942, to Vanita Steffey and Cyrus B. Miller. Fred graduated from Eastland High School in 1960 and from East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas. Shortly before college graduation, in the fall of 1963, he met the love of his life, Marion Simmons, and they were married in 1964. They were inseparable for 61 years. Fred was drafted and served in the Army National Guard and trained as a medic. Soon after his service, they welcomed two sons, Douglas Glenn in 1969 and John Andrew in 1972. As a father, Fred was ever-present and encouraging. He was a man of God and a faithful member of Glenwood Church of Christ in Tyler. Honest, kind, and friendly, with a loving heart, he was always willing to help anyone who needed it. Fred was also a hard worker who liked to stay active, always carrying his walking stick on family walks. He loved coffee and sweets, but loved his family most of all. He was so proud and supportive of them. We will miss his sense of humor, funny stories and observations, sayings, and words of wisdom. Fred worked for Texas energy company Oncor for 25 years before his retirement in 1992. Fred and Marion moved to Tyler in 2001 to be near family after Marion’s retirement. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Alan Miller; son, John Andrew Miller; and nephew, Houston Simmons. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marion S Miller, their son Douglas, his wife Andrea, grandchildren Zachary, Grace and Ainsley, and daughter-in-law Shannon Miller. He also leaves behind brother Cyrus Miller, wife Jenna Vee and their daughter Connie and husband Mark Hester. Fred was especially close to his brother-in-law John Simmons and his children Nikki, Sophie, Hannah and Katie. Fred was a kind, steady presence and friends and relatives on both sides of the family will miss him dearly. The memorial service will be held Monday, December 29 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler. Visitation will be at 1 pm with the service following at 2 pm. Pastor Benjamin Neely will officiate. A private internment will take place in Rose Lawn Cemetery in Tyler.
