Georgia Collins Mason

Georgia Collins Mason, 75, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2015. A celebration of her life will be held at Stewart Family Funeral Home, Monday, November 30, 2015 at 2:00 PM followed by her burial at Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery. Her family will receive guests at a viewing Sunday, November 29, 2015 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Hwy, Tyler. Georgia is survived by her husband of 55 years, Gene Mason; her sisters, Norma Jean “Stormy” Nichols of Aransas Pass, and Sue Leveritt of Leatherhead, England; daughter Kelly Swindell and her husband Richard of Tyler; daughter Cyndi Smith and her husband Mike of Whitehouse; son Ron Mason and his wife Tammie of Centerville; grandson Ronnie Mason and his wife Meredith of Tyler. Her other grandchildren include Caitlin Fechner, Mason Smith, Ashley Dannenfelser, Alex Earley, Amanda Head, Danielle Mason and Nicole Mason. Georgia is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Cleo Collins, and her sisters Aquilla Gowen and Jennie Howell. Georgia was born May 2, 1940 in Hope, Oklahoma as the middle child of her four sisters. She married Gene September 3, 1960 in Pampa, and they moved to Tyler with their three children in 1970. Over the years, she worked for several companies as a bookkeeper and cashier, and she became an image consultant for Beauticontrol Cosmetics in 1986. Georgia loved to sing, and she was a member of Sweet Adelines, a woman’s barbershop choir, as well as two different quartets. In addition to her singing groups, she loved karaoke and making music with all her kids. She spent a lot of her time researching genealogy and was fascinated by her family history. In 1985, she and Gene gained custody of their first grandchild, Ronnie, and they became full-time parents again. She spent many days at his school with her camera, creating personalized photo albums for every child in Ronnie’s class at All Saints Episcopal School. As a room mother, she organized the annual sock hop, and enjoyed serving kids in the cafeteria. Most of the class of 2004 called her “Grandma”. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd, Tyler, Tx 75701. The family would like to extend special thanks to Danette Leach of Encompass Home Health, as well as Dr. Becker and the staff at Hospice Of East Texas.
