Gerald Saxon

Services for Gerald B. Saxon, 74, of Noonday, will be held on Thursday, May 3 at 11:00 AM at Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Hawbaker officiating. A private graveside service will be held later at Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 2, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mr. Saxon passed away peacefully on April 29, 2012 at his residence. He was born January 25, 1938 in Marlin, Texas to William Bryan Saxon and Gladys Holt Saxon. Gerald is survived by a loving family including his wife of 53 years, Wanda Cohn Saxon of Noonday; daughter Connie and husband Roy Lucas of Whitehouse, son Terrill and wife Leigh Saxon of Waco; younger brother James and wife Selma Saxon of Memphis, Tenn.; Grandchildren Jennifer and Sarah Odom of Whitehouse; Jack and Whit Saxon of Waco; Two step grandchildren Lauren and Zackeri Lucas of Whitehouse, and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Paul Bryan Saxon. After graduating Salutatorian from Marlin High School in 1956, Mr. Saxon continued his education at Baylor University, graduating in 1963 with a B.A. in Mathematics and a minor in Geology. Following graduation he worked with Pan American Oil in Tyler and Sun Oil in Denver, Colorado. He later returned to Tyler where he retired January 1, 2000, after serving 31 years as a Technical Service Engineer with Kelly Springfield and Goodyear Tire Plant in Tyler. Mr. Saxon enjoyed reading novels and gardening but mostly loved to fish, though it never kept him from church on Sunday. He was a longtime member of both Noonday Baptist Church and Green Acres Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Terrill Saxon, Jack Saxon, Roy Lucas, Zackeri Lucas, Jerry Black, Mike Odom and Whit Saxon. The family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses and home care providers who helped through this difficult time and a special thanks to care givers Janet Cacho and Elaine Arnold, who showed such kindness and grace.
