Gloria Torres Mata

Gloria Mata (also known as Goyita) 32, of Tyler, entered eternal life on Friday, November 13, 2015 in Tyler. Gloria was down to earth, lover of the simple life, a peacemaker, nurturing, thrifty, and extremely smart (not specifically in that order). She rarely brushed her hair or wore make up but was always flawless with her beautiful curls and baby face. A true natural beauty she was. She found great satisfaction in preparing her young students for their academic future. She loved to laugh or better yet had inappropriate bursts of laughter. She was the one you could always count on to find the good and positive in everything. Gloria lived for her boys and was absolutely in love with their gorgeous curly hair. She never looked forward to her boys’ haircuts. Her favorite activity was at home movie night with her boys and dogs (Pewee & Manotas), though she would never stay put and finish the movie. She was born August 25, 1983 in Houston, TX to Hortencia Sosa and Orbelin Torres. Gloria loved Jesus Christ and praised him at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. She graduated from University of Texas at Tyler. Gloria had a passion for teaching and taught young students for ten years at Bonner Elementary in Tyler. Her spirit is carried on by her loving family including her husband Miguel Mata, her boys Antonio & Roberto Mata, her mother Hortencia Sosa, her brothers Orbelin Torres & Pedro Mendez, her sisters Orfelinda Ramirez, Odilia Garza, Anna Lucena & Rocio Molina. Pallbearers will be Pedro Mendez, Orbelin Torres, Luis Lucena, Erick Molina, Jorge Chavez, & Salvador Garza. Honorary pallbearer will be Miguel Mata. Mass for Gloria will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at 10:00 AM at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church with priest Luis E. Larrea officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. A celebration of her life is scheduled from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 PM on Monday, November 16, 2015 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.
