Harvey Sibley

Memorial services for Harvey Ned Sibley, 92, of Tyler are scheduled for 10:30 AM Wednesday morning June 1, at Stewart Family Funeral Home with Bob Sibley and Vernis Stanaland officiating. Friends and family visitation will be held at the Stewart Family Funeral Home, Tuesday, May 31, from 5-7 PM. Graveside services will be at Sunset Memorial Park in Nacogdoches, Texas at 3:00 PM. Mr. Sibley died May 28, 2011, in Tyler, Texas. He was born to George and Loudie Sibley on April 15, 1919, in Golden Texas, being one of ten children, and with a twin brother Ted. At about the age of five, his family returned to Hatton, Arkansas where he graduated from high school in 1937. He met and married Bessie Fay Baucum, who preceded him in death in 1979. In March 1943, Mr. Sibley entered the Navy and became part of the Navy “Seabees” serving on the Islands of Guadalcanal, Bougainville, Pityilu, and Okinawa. After his discharge from the Navy he moved to Jacksonville, Texas where he was employed by the U. S. Postal Service for 36 years, retiring in 1980. In 1980 Mr. Sibley married Estaline Stanaland Cooper, and, shortly thereafter, moved to Tyler where he enjoyed gardening, playing golf, hunting, and snow skiing. He also enjoyed assisting his wife Estaline in the residential construction business. He was an active member of Tyler Primitive Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for 46 years. For the past six years Mr. Sibley had received Kidney Dialysis three times a week. Mr. Sibley was preceded in death by his parents, George and Loudie Sibley, and brothers Dee, Howard, Tom, and twin brother Ted Sibley, and a sister Louise Fruge’. He is survived by his wife Estaline Stanaland Sibley, three step sons and spouses, Glenn and Nevilee Cooper, Jerry and Melody Cooper, and Steve and Rosemary Cooper. He is also survived by brothers George of Memphis, Tennessee, Johnny of Monroe, Louisiana, and Bob of Tiogo, Louisiana, and a sister Ina Cowan, of Blanchard, Louisiana, five grandchildren: Jeremy Cooper, Jason Cooper, Hannah Cooper, Emma Cooper, and Grayson Cooper, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. Pallbearers will be Glenn Cooper, Jerry Cooper, Steve Cooper, Jeremy Cooper, Jason Cooper, and Mike Sibley. Honorary Pallbearers will be Hannah Cooper, Emma Cooper, Grayson Cooper, and special friend Alvin “Dick” Holley.
