Jack Ferguson

Services for Jack Wayland Ferguson, age 79, of Tyler, will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Stewart Family Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Thoene officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mr. Ferguson passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler. He was born March 21, 1931 in Madill, Oklahoma to William A. Ferguson and Lorena Jones Ferguson. Jack was of Baptist faith and a member of James Ladd Burgess #1305 Masonic Lodge since 1966. He joined the Army Air Force in 1946 and served in World War II. He was awarded Military decorations of the Army of Occupation Medal of Japan and World War II Victory Medal. He graduated from Tyler High School and attended Arlington State and Tyler Junior College. Jack was a State Trooper for Texas Department of Public Safety in Tyler for 23 years and he was also a Deputy Sheriff for Smith County for 11 years. He enjoyed Wednesday night out with his high school buddies and enjoyed having coffee on Tuesdays at the Department of Public Safety station in Tyler. Mr. Ferguson was preceded in death by his father, William Abner Ferguson and mother, Lorena S. Ferguson of Tyler; his son, Kenneth Wayne Ferguson; two granddaughters, Ashlee Ferguson and Shelby Elaine Gardner; and a grandson, Alex Glen Leach. Jack is survived by his loving family including his wife, JoAnne Ferguson of 43 years; five sons, Jack W. Ferguson, II and wife Barbara; Jimmy L. Ferguson and wife Vicky; Justin Ferguson and wife Donna; Jay Ferguson and wife Renea, and Jeff Rains; two daughters, Melanie Elliott; Julie Gardner and husband Kevin; one brother, Gerald Gaston Ferguson and one sister, Betty Stanley and husband Leon. Pallbearers will be Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers. Honorary pallbearers will be his sons, Jack, Jimmy, Justin, Jay Ferguson, and Jeff Rains. Visitation is scheduled from 6:00 – 7:30 PM on Friday, August 20, 2010 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Hwy., Tyler, Texas 75703. If desired, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
