James Crook

Services for James Kenneth Crook, 73, Tyler, are scheduled for Saturday, December 8, 2007 at 10:00 AM at Stewart Family Funeral Home with David O. Dykes officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mr. Crook passed away on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler. He was born to the late James P. & Mattie Crook on August 27, 1934 in Big Spring, Texas. He lived in the Tyler area for 15 years coming from Dallas. Mr. Crook was a graduate of Texas Tech University in 1960, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Geology. He also received an Associate in Applied Science degree from the Metropolitan Technical Institute in Dallas in 1969. He was employed with Dallas Power & Light, which later became TXU Electric, for 25 years. He retired in 1992 as a Manager in Personnel Systems. He was a faithful member of Green Acres Baptist Church and was very active, until his accident in 2003, teaching 5th Grade Boy's S. S, Summer Camps, Coached 5th and 6th grade Basketball, Celebration Choir and was still serving as a Deacon. He loved the sport of basketball, football, fishing, hunting and golfing and will be remembered by his daughter, son, grandson and nephews for teaching them the fine art of hunting and fishing. He loved his family and looked forward to all of the Family Reunions and being with his immediate family. He was basically a quiet man, but attentive to what a person had to say. I guess we can remember Ken as "The Quiet Man". Mr. Crook was preceded in death by sister, Wanda Sue Crook Bowen. He is survived by his loving family including his wife of 53 ½ years, Shirley Crook of Tyler; son, Gary L. Crook and wife Rose M. Crook of Cleveland; daughter, Angie Edwards and husband, Paul of Wylie; grandson, Jonathan R. Crook; two step grandchildren; four great step grandchildren; sister, Louise Devenport and husband Joe and their children and grandchildren; brother-in-law, Kenneth Bowen and wife Dolores and children and grandchildren; and a host of friends. Pallbearers will be Ralph Gillham, Willis Delozier, Mike Allen, Roland Saunders, Jimmy Jackson, Dick Lee, Gary Dougherty, and Ramon Murphy. Honorary pallbearers will be member of John Stroud's Sunday Morning Bible Class. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 7, 2007 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, Tyler, Texas 75703.
