James Richard Hardaway

James Richard “Hotdog” Hardaway went home to his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 10, 2016 in Tyler. Services for James “Rick” Hardaway, 61, of Tyler, will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 1:00 PM at The Lord’s House church with Rev. Samuel Priddy and Bill Allen officiating under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, before the service in the sanctuary. James was born June 8, 1954 in Ft. Worth, Texas to James Henry and Era Janice Hardaway. He spent most of his young life in Waxahachie, Texas. After graduating from Waxahachie High School, where he rode bulls and broncs and played in the band, he began working for Lone Star Gas Company. He experienced truck driving, working at the Kerr Glass Plant, and joined his parent’s family business of Hardaway’s Welding & Fence & Construction, ending with his longtime career of heavy equipment operator with TXU Mining. James was the father of five children – Timothy James, Brittney Ann, Teri Michelle, Brandy Renee, and Amanda Brooke Hardaway. In 1999, while working for TXU, James met the love of his life, Jackie Adams. He always said “you taught me how to live and love; and you are my best half!” They shared a life full of love, joy, adventure, fishing, fun and games, friends, and family. They loved being a part of the Lord’s House family! This is where Rick met his close friend and pastor, Sam Priddy and wife Amy. They stood with James and Jackie until the very last request, a DQ vanilla milkshake. James was preceded in death by his father, James Henry Hardaway; his sister, Tammy Denise Hardaway Miller; paternal grandparents James & Molly Hardaway; and maternal grandparents, Oliver & Faye Holland. He is survived by his loving family including his wife, Jackie Hardaway and his mother Janice Hardaway; his children, Timothy and Mandy and their children, Audrey, James, Rachael, Chessie; Brittney and Earl Greer, their children,Christine, Faith and Earl, Jr.; Teri Quebedeaux and Bill Willett and her sons Drake and Hunter; step-children, Corrie and Kevin Bishop, Kevin Jr., Michele & Stephen Sledge and Benjamin; his aunt Carolyn and Paul Montandon; and numerous cousins. If desired memorials may be made to the Hospice of East Texas Foundation, 4111 university Blvd., Tyler, TX 75702. The family wants to “thank everyone” for your loving prayers and kind words; to Linda Dickson for all the food and comfort, with her special cakes for Rick; for the flowers, cards, phone calls, texts and visits. Rick and Jackie want to say “we appreciated every little kindness from family and friends that we shared over the lifetime of his illnesses. God bless and keep you always!”
