James "Mike" Nix

The visitation for James Michael Nix, 80, of Tyler will be held on Monday, October 25, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Sam Fisher officiating under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. The memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Mr. Nix passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2021 in Tyler. He was born March 2, 1941 in Lamesa, TX to Olin Nix and Hazel Merritt Nix. Mike married the love of his life, Shawni, on November 26, 1960. Mike was a member of New Covenant Church, President of Russwood Acres, graduate from Victory Bible College & Victory Mission School, owner & pastor of Helping Hands Mission, and Rector for Kairos (prison ministry). Mike and Shawni served on several mission trips to Africa, Mexico, Guatemala, and El Salvador. Mike also served in Walk to Emmaus and many more church related service projects. He graduated from Klondike High School and was a fierce and lifelong competitor in basketball, baseball, football, and golf. Mike was a club champion golfer, tournament champion and celebrated 3 hole-in-ones! His greatest joy was playing with his grandchildren. He was the co-owner of Nix John Deere Implement, owner of Nix Department Store, Mike Nix Auto Exchange, Littlefield Golf Course and Nix Rental Properties. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Olin Nix; mother, Hazel Reeves; brother, Phillip Reeves; and sister, Tammy Walls. He is survived by his loving family including wife, Shawni Nix; daughter, Janet Watson and husband, Cliff; daughter, Jeannia Dykman and husband, Greg; daughter, Melissa Gill and husband, Chris. Grandchildren include Seth Watson and wife, Danica; Jordan Watson Brown and husband, Tyler; Travis Dykman and wife, Meagan; Madison Watson Falk and husband, Sam; Tanner Dykman and wife, Melanie; Alie Watson and Joshua Gill. Great-grandchildren include Brooks and Will Watson; Wesley Dykman and soon to arrive Oliver Falk. Mike Nix is also survived by his siblings, Pam Humphreys and husband, Rick; Ann Hart and husband, Greg, Mark Reeves and wife, Shelley; Tommy Reeves and wife, Mary; Brenda Dazis; Karis Reeves; Donna Fessenden and husband; Gary; numerous nieces and nephews and additional family members. Honorary Pallbearers will be Seth Watson, Travis Dykman, Tanner Dykman, Joshua Gill, Tyler Brown and Sam Falk. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the New Covenant Church Youth Building Fund at 4402 Watson St. Tyler, TX 75701.
