Services for Janice Evans Smith, 85, of Tyler, Texas will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 9:00 at Stewart Family Funeral Home with Pastor Gib Baskerville officiating. Burial will follow at Whitehouse Cemetery in Whitehouse under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Janice Smith passed away Friday, July 14, 2023 in Tyler. She was born January 12, 1938 in Gregg County, Texas to Gurris Rosco Evans and Alma C. Rogers. Janice graduated from Palestine High School in 1956 and worked for over 20 years for various non-profits such as The Red Cross and Muscular Dystrophy Association. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and the M & M Sunday school class. Her hobbies included sewing, crafts, and genealogy. Janice was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart of 60 years, Harold Loyd Smith; her parents, Gurris Rosco Evans, and Alma C. Rogers; father-in-law, Marshall Smith and mother-in-law, Macie Robinson; stepmother-in-law, Ilo Smith; daughter, Cheryl Smith Morrow and husband Bobby Morrow, of Tyler; brother, Thomas Gilbert Evans and his wife, Carolyn, of Nacogdoches; brother-in-law, Marshall James Smith and wife, Mary Smith, of Pert. She is survived by her loving family including her daughter, Terri Jan Cowart and her husband, Jerry Allen Cowart, of Brandon, Mississippi; son, Carl Loyd Smith, of Tyler; sister-in-law, Eveline Smith McCuan and her husband, Bill, of Sanger, Texas; stepbrother-in-law, Tommy Henry Smith and wife, Carol, of Hurst. Janice is also survived by her grandchildren, Morgan Cruse and husband, Bill, of Carriere, Mississippi; Audrey Johnson and husband, Dwayne, of Brandon, Mississippi; Logan Cowart, of Brandon, Mississippi; Matthew Morrow and wife, Caylee, of Tyler; great-grandchildren, Liam Cruse, Macie Cruse, Victor Cruse, Ian Johnson, Kayla Johnson, Claire Cruse, Maddie Johnson. Pallbearers will be Logan Cowart, Matthew Morrow, Bill Cruse, Dwayne Johnson, Liam Cruse, and Justin “Red” Northcut.
