Janyce S. Gist

"For I know whom I have Believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day.” II Timothy 1:12 Janyce Steed Gist was born the fourth child of Lillie Belle and Thurman Steed in Atlanta, Tx, on August 18, 1926. She accepted Christ as her Savior as a child and kept her steady, unwavering faith in Him for the rest of her life. She married Henry Lewis “Happy” Gist shortly after World War II, and they made Tyler their home in 1947. She joined First Baptist Church and remained a lifelong member. They became the doting parents of one daughter, Gigi, and two grandchildren, Tiffany and Jordan. Mom’s great love for her daughter, grandchildren, and great grandchildren cannot be measured. She was their greatest supporter and encourager. There were suggestions, strong suggestions in Mom’s home! If you play outside, you don’t really need to get dirty. Never sit on a bed that has been made; it would be best to not even look at the bed! There is nothing like a good cold Coke. Never wear white shoes before Easter and only then until September 1st or Labor Day. Dress appropriately for church and doctors’ appointments. Always have something to wear to a funeral; you never know. Never put your feet on any furniture with the exception of an ottoman. Cook and your family will come! The Father took her carefully and with great love on Wednesday afternoon, April 12. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” Ps 116:15. We are grateful for His mercy and grace. Janyce Gist was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Lewis “Happy” Gist, and her precious great granddaughter, Mackenzie. She is survived by her daughter, Gigi Daughtry, granddaughter, Tiffany Kidd and husband, Trant, grandson, Jordan Daughtry and wife, Amanda, great grandchildren Elizabeth Kidd, Cameron Kidd, Lily Hammer and Payton Daughtry. The strength of Mom’s presence is gone, but she leaves behind a precious legacy of faith in God for us. She was our lovely mother and grandmother who we will miss everyday. There will be a private family graveside service on Monday, April 17, officiated by our friend and pastor, Rev. Pike Wisner.
