J.B. Gibson

Services for J. B. "Jay" Gibson, 78, of Flint, will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 10:00 AM at Stewart Family Funeral Home with Rev. Park Robertson and Rev. Larry Neely officiating. Burial will follow in Noonday Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mr. Gibson passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2008 at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler. He was born on January 15, 1930 in Noonday, Texas to the late Reedus B. and Johnnie Dingler Gibson and lived most of his life in Noonday. Mr. Gibson was a veteran, serving his country in the U.S. Army. He lived 12 years in Longview, retiring as a newspaper pressman for the Longview News Journal and later became a cattleman. He was a Baptist deacon and served as president of his Sunday school class. He was a past president of the Rose City Sam's RV Club, a retired member of the Noonday Onion Growers Association, and a board member of the Noonday Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a board member of the Noonday Veteran Memorial Monument, being instrumental in its organization. In his spare time, Mr. Gibson was an avid deer hunter, enjoyed watching wildlife, and thoroughly enjoyed his family and friends. Mr. Gibson was preceded in death by his daughter, Kelli Jo Tompkins. He is survived by a loving family including his wife of 54 years, Mamie Gibson of Noonday; his son, Michael Jay Gibson of Noonday; granddaughter, Stacey Gibson of Dallas; three grandsons, Justin Gibson of Noonday, Chas Tompkins of Chandler, Cory Tompkins of Chandler; sister, Dolly Hale and husband Paul of Noonday; and son-in-law David Tompkins of Chandler. Pallbearers will be David Hale, David Booth, Mike Turman, Jack Tompkins, Ellis Crawford, Randy Mase, Bill Turman, and Mike Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will be Stacey Gibson, Justin Gibson, David Tompkins, Chas Tompkins, Cory Tompkins, William Brulisauer, and members of the Rose City Sam's RV Club. Visitation is scheduled from 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday, February 15, 2008 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, Tyler, Texas 75703. Memorials in honor of J.B.
