Jerry Kidd

Services for Jerry Quitman Kidd, 77, of Chandler will be held on Monday, March 21, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Chandler with Dr. Stan Copeland and Rev. Jeff McDonald officiating. Burial will follow at Chandler Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Jerry Kidd went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 15, 2011. He was born March 1, 1934 in Brownsboro, Texas to John Holland and Lou Ella Dalton-Kidd. After growing up in Brownsboro, Jerry went on to graduate from East Texas State in Commerce. On December 18, 1954, he married the love of his life, Alice Murl Cade of Chandler. From coaching football in Groveton, to teaching P.E. at Andy Woods and Rice Elementary in Tyler for 13 years, Jerry always had a giving and entrepreneurial spirit. He went on to open the first Kidd Jones convenience store with his partner Leo Jones on April 13, 1965. From a 6 x 10 portable building, selling cigarettes, oil, and gas, to the more pristine convenience stores today with fast foods inside, the partnership grew to locations throughout East Texas communities. In 1981, Jerry saw another opportunity in purchasing an interest in the local bank in Chandler. Over the past three decades, the banks have also spread throughout East Texas serving many communities. One of Jerry’s favorite past times was quail hunting. He particularly cherished the hunts and time spent with his best friend and hunting partner, Rack Tindel of Lindale. Together, they explored and experienced life all over the world and maintained a remarkable friendship for over 50 years. Jerry was involved in and supported many different community organizations and charities throughout his life. He was a life-long member of First United Methodist Church in Chandler. On behalf of his family, we want to especially thank all of the physicians, nurses, and personnel who assisted him at Mother Frances Hospital, as well as his primary doctor, Dr. Tom Alexander. We would also like to give a very special thanks to Casimiro “Adrian” Gutierrez, who was a trusted and beloved friend and care-giver to Jerry for many years. We would also like to give thanks to all of Jerry’s partners and associates who played such a vital role in his career. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Reba Angel. He is survived by his loving family including his wife of 56 years, Alice Murl Kidd of Chandler; sons, Luster Kidd of Tyler and Greg Kidd and wife Shelly of Plano; grandchildren, Kristi Kidd of Dallas, Chad Kidd of Tyler, Ashley Kidd of College Station, and Chelsea Kidd of Plano. Pallbearers will be Mac Hutchens, David Monk, David Kidd, David Angel, Gerald Garrie, Larry Epperson, Alberto Romo, and Casimiro “Adrian” Gutierrez. Honorary pallbearers Don Copeland, Ras Cade, Conley Cade, Andy Tindel, Mike Jones, Bill McHam, and the Directors of Citizens State Bank. Visitation is scheduled from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Hwy., Tyler, Tx 75703.
