Jimmie June Lewis

On August 3, 2016, Heaven gained an angel with extra wings as Jimmie June Lewis met Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior. She was born into this earthly world in Longview, Texas on March 2, 1944 to J.E. and Lilla Walker. Jimmie June graduated from Longview High School and Stephen F. Austin University. She and her husband, Gene Lewis, displayed a testament of true love for over fifty years. Jimmie June's loving family includes her two daughters, Jena June Johnson and husband Jason, Shelly Linville and husband Jeff, and three adoring grandchildren, Makenzi Johnson, and Austin and Walker Linville. Jimmie June also has two brothers and sisters in law Gil and Ann Walker, Brett Walker, and Frances Ray along with two beautiful nieces Dawn Gee and Natalie Blakeley. Jimmie June's love and passion in life was Jesus Christ and her family. She selflessly gave her time sharing God's love to others through her volunteer work for Meals on Wheels, teaching Sunday school, Vacation Bible school, AAUW, Good Samaritan Outreach, PTA, and countless other projects and causes. She was a substitute teacher at Robert E. Lee High School for 26 years giving her time and devotion to young people, being a listening ear to all who were in need. Jimmie June also taught Childbirth Education and CPR Classes for CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System for the past 12 years. She had a true gift for encouraging and loving expectant parents, many of whom adopted her as "family". Serving others was her gift to the world, and all of her many friends received this amazing blessing over and over again. Jimmie June had an extra special way of reaching into others' lives and caring about their every need. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially at her beloved lake house and on yearly Thanksgiving trips to Branson, Missouri. She was the core of every laugh, hug, tear, and celebration. No school event, dance recital, or baseball game went by that she was not cheering on her grandchildren. She was, and is, "Dee Dee" to her grandchildren and they will miss her beyond words. Her beautiful smile, quick wit, and unconditional love cannot be replaced. Her grandchildren learned how to love rainbows, sunsets, nature walks, and most of all Jesus from their precious Dee Dee. She appreciated every detail that life offered, big and small. We thank the Lord for sharing her with us and we long for the day that we will be forever reunited with her in the Kingdom of Heaven. The outpouring of love, support, and prayers from so many is a living example of how extraordinary she was. Her family thanks all of the many people who have given so much love. Services will be held on Friday, August 5, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Green Acres Baptist Church Worship Center in Tyler with Dr. David Dykes officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery in Tyler, under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
