Jo Ann Bain

Jo Ann Beaird Bain went to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the age of 90. Jo Ann was born in Doucette, Texas on July 18, 1934, to Arthur Smith Beaird and Ora Zell Burnett Beaird. Jo Ann and her siblings (Elton, Clark, Joy, Lynn, and Mike) were raised primarily in East Texas, specifically in Lufkin. Jo Ann and her parents and siblings enjoyed good times together and remained a close family throughout their lifetimes, enjoying each other’s company. Jo Ann worked at her father’s newsstand in Lufkin as a child and told many funny stories about her experiences there and with her family growing up. Jo Ann was a Cum Laude and Honor Graduate of Lufkin High School Class of 1952 and a Graduate of Gradwohl School of Laboratory Technique in St. Louis, Missouri in 1953. Along with a friend from Lufkin, Jo Ann enjoyed this time in her life very much and after graduation, she went to Rock Island, Illinois to intern. Jo Ann returned to Lufkin to work in the medical field and then moved to Tyler, Texas where she met and married the love of her life, Bill Bain. Jo Ann spoke of their meeting often-Bill had come to donate blood at the Blood Bank in Tyler for his sister-in-law who had just given birth, and she drew his blood. Married in 1959, Jo Ann and Bill had their first child Michael Bailey Bain (Mike) in 1961. Eventually moving to the Houston area, Bill and Jo Ann had a daughter named Catherine Elizabeth Bain (Cathy) in 1971. The family had many wonderful experiences on their deck boat and later pontoon boat on Lake Livingston from the 1970’s-2000’s, spending treasured time with family and friends. Jo Ann worked at Hildebrandt Intermediate School in Klein, Texas for 22 years as an attendance secretary, retiring in 2002. She always had special relationships with her office aides and coworkers. Jo Ann and Bill moved to Lake Livingston full-time in 2002 and remained there happily for many years. Jo Ann, her only sister Joy, and JoAnn’s daughter, Cathy, enjoyed many vacation trips together to Louisiana-these times were treasured. Jo Ann always had a very special relationship with her nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Waiting happily in Heaven for Jo Ann were her son Mike, granddaughter Margaret Catherine Bain (Maggie), daughter-in-law Wendy Tankersley Bain, grandson-in-law Shawn Wood, and great-granddaughter Paisley Tankersley. Also waiting for her were her parents Arthur Beaird, Zell Beaird, and beloved stepmother Berniece Beaird. A host of family and friends were there to celebrate on Saturday with Jo Ann, celebrating in God’s infinite love and light. Jo Ann is survived by her loving husband Bill and her daughter Cathy. Also survived by granddaughter Natalie Blakely (Chris) and children Austin Wood and Madison Blakely. Jo Ann is also survived by her granddaughter Maggie’s children Trenton Bartosh (Greg Bartosh), Carter and Raven Robinson (Mike Robinson), cherished family member Ginny Hammers, granddaughter Erica Fosdick (Trey) and children Kailynn, Keagan, and Kaige, granddaughter Heather Holmes (Greg) and children Stephen, Xandra, Phoenix, Gianni, and her grandson Mat Tankersley (Lacey) and children Kendyl and Ryan. Also surviving, her sister Joy Lancaster, brother Mike Beaird (Heidi), sisters-in-law Sandra Beaird (Clark), Claudette Beaird (Lynn) along with numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 28, 2025, for a visitation from 1-2pm at Stewart Family Funeral Home in Tyler, Texas. A celebration of Life begins at 2pm followed by a graveside dedication at Flint Cemetery in Flint, Texas. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the following for helping Bill and Jo Ann in their later years: Carriage Inn Conroe (residents and staff), Harbor Hospice, Divine Life Change LLC, and the Wayne Gladden Family.
