Joan Boring

Services for Joan Vanderpool Boring, 75, Tyler, beloved wife and mother, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Green Acres Baptist Church with Pastor Gary Brandenburg officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Hwy., Tyler. Mrs. Boring died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, in Tyler. Joan was born March 27, 1930, in Paris, Texas, to the late Milton and Beulah Vanderpool. She attended Tyler schools, graduated from Tyler High School and from Southern Methodist University. She was a member of Grace Community Church and active in leadership. She chaired Women of Grace, conducted numerous home Bible studies, was an active and faithful mentor to many young women, and had a motivation to support missions, including outreach efforts through the Grace Community Church's Women's Prison Ministry, Mercy Ships and Teen Mania. Joan was an avid gardener and was a gifted arranger of flowers. She was a gifted painter, particularly of landscapes and pastoral scenes. Her love of the outdoors included fishing, she enjoyed riding horseback at her farm, and spending time in the country with her beloved grandchildren. Joan's enthusiasm and zest for life was a cornerstone of her family life. Her beautiful smile was a source of comfort and encouragement to many. She frequently referred to her children as her "masterpieces." Joan was a patriotic American whose commitment to traditional values fueled her passion to make her country and community a better place for her grandchildren. She was a talented homemaker and an outstanding cook. Her legendary chicken cured many a cold in the family. Her grandchildren will long remember enjoying a refreshing "400" while in her care. Joan's fondness for her parents and their impact on her life was a cherished legacy in which she took great satisfaction. Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Jamie Boring; daughter, Nancy Harvey Blomdahl and husband Bill; son, John Harvey and wife Lori; daughter, Elizabeth Harvey Clyde and husband Nelson; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Amanda Blomdahl, Bryce Harvey, Sarah, Cal, Rachel and Jamie Clyde; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Todd Vanderpool, Milton Vanderpool, Bubba Stark, Cal Clyde, Bryce Harvey and Mike Jackson. Honorary pallbearers are George Hurst, Jim Arnold, Elwood Stetson, David Vanderpool, Travis Vanderpool and Bob Rossman. If desired, memorials may be made to Hospice of East Texas, or Mercy Ships.
