John Hugh Justice

John Hugh Justice went home to his lord and savior on January 25, 2014. He was born January 24, 1923 in Dallas, Texas, the son of Lou-Reine and Sam H. Justice. John graduated from North Dallas High School, Dallas, Texas, and proudly served his country for four years as a United States naval officer in World War Two. Soon after his discharge from the Navy, John met the love of his life, Lynne A. Arceneaux, and they were married in February 1947. John received his B.B.A. degree from Southern Methodist University in 1947 and also attended Harvard University Graduate School of Business. He was a distinguished Certified Public Accountant, having served as president of the East Texas Chapter of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants and a member of the Board of Directors of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants. From 1949 until his retirement in 1983, John worked for Delta Drilling Company in various financial and tax positions, including Tax Manager and Treasurer, before retiring as Vice President-Finance. In their later years Lynne discovered golf and John discovered ball room dancing. Lynne golfed at The Cascades Club and they danced at the Venetian Ball Room Club, Crystal Ballroom Club and Sal's Dance Club. While not quite Fred Astaire, John looked great in his tuxedo. John was a member of Glenwood United Methodist Church for over fifty years and thereafter Fairwood United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lynne Justice, of Tyler, Texas, brother Blair D. Justice and wife Rita, of Houston, Texas, daughter Karen L. Justice, of Tyler, Texas, son Deets D. Justice and wife Janet, of Austin, Texas, four grandchildren, Spencer, Forrest and Carolyn Justice, of Austin, Texas and Trenton Justice of Winston Salem, North Carolina as well as beloved nieces and nephews to numerous to name. John was a devoted husband, wonderful father and true friend. He was a gentle, caring person of the highest character and great integrity. He will be always loved and forever missed. Visitation is scheduled from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, Tyler. Burial and graveside services will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Tyler, Texas with Reverend Paula J. Behrens officiating.
