Johnny David Skelton

Services for Johnny David Skelton, 76, of Flint will be held on Monday, November 27, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gerry Giles officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mr. Skelton passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 in Tyler. He was born April 23, 1941 in Pittsburg, TX to David Wylie Skelton and Gertrude England Skelton. Johnny moved to Tyler as a child. While attending John Tyler High School, he worked at Weingarten’s grocery store. After graduation, he moved to Shreveport where he continued working for Weingarten’s. After being drafted in the Army in 1963, he married Milha Holland and they made their first home in Augsburg, Germany. Upon leaving the Army, they returned to Shreveport and he took a job as Market Manager at the Brookshire Grocery Co. Throughout his 43-year career there, the family moved several times from Shreveport to Paris, TX, where their children, Amy and John were born. Johnny was transferred to Longview in 1973 as a District Supervisor and the family lived there for 12 years before returning to Tyler in 1985 (where they joined Marvin United Methodist Church). Johnny ended his career at Brookshire’s as Executive Vice President and Chief Retail Operations Officer. Milha and Johnny were able to travel extensively during his career with Brookshire’s, making lifelong friends. The family spent many happy hours water skiing on lakes in Texas and Arkansas. Amy and John both learned to water ski as preschoolers. Most summer vacations were centered around the lake or the beach. Other hobbies included hunting, fishing and golf. In 2008, Johnny and Milha bought their first motor home and traveled around the country meeting many new friends along the way. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, James Wylie Skelton and Harold D. Skelton and his sister, Ruth Skelton Underwood. He is survived by his loving family including his wife, Milha Kathryn Skelton; daughter, Amy Michelle Linville (Chris); son, John Wylie Skelton (Laci); and grandchildren, Sydney, Collin, Parker, Wylie, Waylon (soon to be born), Katelin, Logan, Lexie and Will. Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to the service at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.
