Funeral services for Joyce Agar Agnew, 89, of Tyler will be held on Monday, March 30, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. in the Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Eddy Secrest officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Agnew passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2026 in Tyler. She was born March 2, 1937 in Morristown, NJ to Edward Agar, Jr. and Doris Cronshey. Joyce was a member of the Springhill High School graduating class of 1955. She then attended college at SMU and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree followed by a Master of Education degree from North Texas State University. She started her career as an elementary school teacher in 1959. Her career brought her great joy in educating children for 35 years in both Garland and Tyler, Texas. It was important to Joyce to enrich students’ lives and make them feel good about themselves. Over the years, her students became like her children. She kept up with events in their lives and often was invited to attend high school graduations and weddings. Her dedication to teaching and making a difference is reflected in their love for her. In 1960, Joyce married her amazing, loving husband, Don Agnew. At the time of Don’s death, the couple had been married for 59 years. Her husband and her youngest daughter Lynn both preceded her in death. Family was very Important to her. She is survived by her three remaining children and their spouses: Lisa Agnew(Steve Mogan), Larry Agnew (Shelly), and Lyle Agnew (Teri) as well as her grandchildren: Madeline and Connor O’banon, Whitney and Casey Scruggs, Cameron and Macy Agnew, Cody and Ashley Kirkman, Katelynn and John Mobley, Taylor and Taylor Bardin, Jack and Rachel Agnew, and Julianna Agnew, ten great grandchildren, and her brother Charles Agar. She also enjoyed many loving and supportive friends that she considered family. Visitation is scheduled from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 30, 2026 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway in Tyler.
