L.W. "Pete" Hughes

L. W. “Pete” Hughes, 92, of Tyler, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025, and his wife of 74 years, Frances Lucille Hughes, 90. joined him in heaven on May 21, 2025. Pete and Lucille were preceded in death by their daughter. Laura Hughes. Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Dora Hughes; brother, Roy Hughes; and sisters, Louise Hughes Johnson and Frances Hughes. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Jewel Womack; brother, James Womack; and sister, Bennie Ruth Womack Meshell. They are survived by their sons, Steve Hughes and wife Teresa; and Terry Hughes and wife Lynette. Grandchildren: Stephanie Hughes, Clint Hughes, Amy Hughes, Jodie Hughes Albritton, Natalie Hughes Burkham, Jason Muller and Justin Muller. Great-grandchildren: Chance Hughes, Haley Hughes Henry, Kaden Hughes, Lacie Hughes, Avery Albritton, Ty Burkham, Jack Burkham, Olivia Burkham, Reese Berthiaume, Nakona Muller, Alexis Muller, and Cayden Muller. Great-great-grandchildren: Addi Henry and Bennett Hughes, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Lucille is survived by her brother, DeWayne Womack. While stationed in San Diego, California with the United States Navy, Pete married the love of his life, Frances Lucille Womack. He proudly served his country during the Korean War and, after returning home to Tyler, began a long and successful career in route sales. Lucille began her career as a hair stylist and opened her own salon. After retiring from their perspective careers, they began Hughes Plant Farm with their son, Terry. A few years later, their son Steve joined the business and the family worked together until the farm’s sale in 2022. During their years in Tyler, they made many friends and touched many lives. They were active members of Colonial Hills Baptist Church and enjoyed fellowship with their Sunday school class. Papaw Pete and Grandma Lucy, as they were affectionately known to their family, were devoted parents and grandparents and will be forever missed. Their legacy is etched deeply into the hearts of those who loved them. Visitation is scheduled Friday, May 23, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler, Texas. Services in the Chapel of the funeral home will be held following visitation with Pastor Jason White officiating. Burial will be at Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery, Tyler, Texas. Pallbearers will be Clint Hughes, Chance Hughes, Kaden Hughes, Jason Muller, Justin Muller, Cayden Muller, Scott Albritton, C. J. Burkham, Ty Burkham, Jack Burkham, Justice Henry, Curt Stripling, Blake Marion, Josh Marion, Clint Ray, and Cliff Ray. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe and Ann McGuire.
