Leon T. Abbott

Services for Leon T. Abbott, 83, of Tyler, will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at 1:30 PM at Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Ron Wells and Brother Tom Crawford officiating. Burial will follow at Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mr. Abbott was born May 8, 1929 in Mart to Edgar and Romaine Abbott. Mr. Abbott passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at The Hospice of East Texas surrounded by his loving family. Leon married the love of his life, Christine Lorene Parmer in 1951. They celebrated nearly 50 years together before Christine went to be with the Lord in November of 2000. During their loving marriage they had two children, Karen Lea and Thomas Michael. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1948 to 1952. Leon was a longtime and still active Deacon at Westwood Baptist Church. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1983 and was an active partner in Rose city Telcom until 1990. He was a loving and devoted father, husband, grandfather and friend, always ready and willing to help anyone in need. Strong in character and faith, he was simply a great man. He was the rock of the family and will be greatly missed. We find comfort knowing Dad is now with our Mom. In addition to his parents Leon was preceded in death by his wife, Christine. He is survived by his loving family including daughter, Karen Plyler and husband Charles of Flint; son, Tom Abbott and wife Marcia of San Angelo; grandchildren, Jennifer Jackson, Jared Plyler, Katie Abbott and Kelsey Abbott; three great-grandchildren; brother, Lewis Abbott and wife Alice and sister-in-law, Norma Stanley. Pallbearers will be Marvin Sudduth, Phil Stanley, Jared Plyler, Don Cook, David Stafford and Bob Stagner. Visitation is scheduled from 12:30 to 1:30 PM, one hour prior to the service on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway in Tyler.
