Services for Lisa Wood Ploeger Mitchell, (75), of Hideaway will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Stewart Family Funeral Home with Pastor Bryan Bailey officiating. Lisa, a lifelong educator and cherished matriarch, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2025, in Hideaway, Texas. She was born December 2, 1949, in Dallas, Texas to Edward Ploeger and Elizabeth Crowder Ploeger. Lisa dedicated her life to educating and nurturing young minds. She began her career as a teacher in the public school system, where she taught for over 40 years. Known for her boundless energy, creativity, and genuine care for her students, she inspired countless children to develop a love of learning. She had such an impact that several of those children, including her own granddaughter, Lauren, have gone on to become teachers themselves. Beyond the classroom, Lisa was the beloved center of her close-knit family. She took immense pride in her role as a wife, mother, and “LeeLee”. Family gatherings have always been lively affairs filled with her infectious laughter, sage advice, and unwavering support. Lisa was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and throughout her life, she enjoyed time at the beach, reading, boating, fishing, and sewing. In retirement, Lisa remained active in her community. There was rarely a week where she did not have a Mahjong or Quilting event to attend. Her daughters have often joked that she had a better social life than they did. Lisa was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Ploeger and Elizabeth and Martin Johnson; sister Kristina Busceme; sister-in-law Julia Berry; and 2 nieces and nephews. She is survived by her loving family including her husband of fifty-two years, Woodrow Mitchell; daughters Kristen Herring and Alison Mitchell; granddaughters Lauren Herring and her fiance Blake Bradham, Emily Herring, and Rebecca Herring; brother, Kurt Ploeger and his wife Debbie, brothers-in-law, Richard Berry and George Busceme; and four nieces and nephews. Visitation is scheduled from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler. In honor of Lisa, the family invites you to wear bright colors Instead of the usual floral remembrances, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy.
