Lois J. "Dickey" Wilson Wood

Our beloved mother, Lois J. “Dickey” Wilson Wood passed away Sunday, August 25, 2013. Service will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 1:30 PM at Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel with family friend Mark Turman, Senior Pastor of Crosspoint Church, McKinney, officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Dickey was born to the late Shelby and Josie Wilson in Pryor, OK on April 18, 1928. She graduated from high school in Pryor and also attended Northeastern State at Tahlequah, OK., where she met her husband Dr. James E. Wood. After “they” completed medical school and residency, they moved to Tyler. Dickey was a member of the Smith County Medical Society/Alliance since the mid 50’s, serving as Book Fair Chairman in 1969-70; she also volunteered as a “Gray Lady” through the Red Cross and worked half a day a week at what is now the UTT Health Center in the 1950’s. She was a past member of the Tyler Symphony League, Tyler Women’s Forum, and Tyler Saddle Club. Dickey loved her family and enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they grew up. She enjoyed playing Mahjong and bridge with her friends, horse-racing, visiting the “boats”, and dancing at the Petroleum Club. Dickey was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James E. Wood; parents; brother, Jack; and sisters, Mozelle, Wrenda, Jo and Katie; and sons-in-law, Gil Hitt and Pat Wedgeworth. She is survived by her loving family including daughters, Debbie Hitt, Melissa Wedgeworth, Neta (Todd) Clifton; sons, Jim (Tanya) Wood and Mark (Debra) Wood; grandchildren, Christie Hitt Hamilton, Erin Hitt, Matt (Barbara) Wedgeworth, Dean (Lisa) Wedgeworth, Anissa Hightower, Chris (Courtney) Clifton, Dr. Jessica Clifton (fiancé Nicholas Charest), Nick Clifton, Elizabeth Wood Files, Clayton (Britney) Wood, Callie Timme, Jake Timme, Bret Timme, Blake Wood and Claire Wood; great-grandchildren, Austin Hamilton, Hannah Hamilton, Tyson Wedgeworth, and Tyler Wedgeworth; life-long friend, Julie Anthony; and nieces and nephews, Tracie and Chad McConnell, Wendy France, Jim and Bonnie Pierson, Pattie Powers, Peggy LaPorte, Johnny and Mary Pierson, and Bob and Jewelene Pierson. Pallbearers will be Dickey’s sons, grandsons and great-grandsons. The family would like to thank Hospice of East Texas, Kathryn and LaQuita and caregivers, Roberta Pace and Cora Nelson. Visitation is scheduled from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.
