Services for Marion Lavon Hayes, 78, of Tyler will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Stewart Family Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mr. Hayes passed away on November 22, 2008 in Tyler. He was born on March 2, 1930 in Quitman, Mississippi to the late William Jepth and Margie Ivy Hayes. Mr. Hayes was raised in Quitman, Mississippi and later served his country in the United States Army as a cook and baker. He was employed as a company representative for Otis Elevator for over 35 years. He was a Scottish Rite 32nd Degree Mason. Mr. Hayes was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and travel. He was also a talented craftsman who built rifles and golf clubs. Mr. Hayes deeply loved his family, had many friends, and showed his love for others by helping without expecting anything in return. Mr. Hayes is survived by a loving family including his wife of 58 years, Lou Hayes of Tyler; a daughter, Sheri Penn and husband John of Tyler; sons, Dana Hayes and wife Sarah of Las Vegas, Nevada and Ted Hayes and wife Amy of Kaufman; grandchildren, Allison Penn of Wylie, Collin Penn of Athens, Georgia, Tyler Hayes of Sunrise, Florida, Dustin Hayes of Kaufman, Cassandra Hayes of Rockwall, Haley Hayes of Aztec, New Mexico, and Alexis Kirk of Kaufman; brother, Horace Bonner and wife Margie Lou of Quitman, Mississippi; sisters, Hazel Griffin of Clinton, Mississippi and Auline Turner and husband Reece of Quitman, Mississippi; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Glenn Collins, Clarence Miller, Bill Long, Jerry Cole, Doug Cole, Roy Davenport, Mike Jones, and Clay Oldham. Honorary pallbearers will be Toby Davis, Dr. Ben Bridges, Bob Irwin, Glenn Davis, and Ray Stricklin. Visitation is scheduled from 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler. Memorials in honor of M.L. Hayes may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice, 1402 Rice Road, Tyler, Texas 75703.
