Margie K. Woods

Margie Kimmey Woods celebrated her 100th birthday on February 11th, 2023. She was born to Frank and Dora Kimmey in Huntington, Texas but her family moved to Nacogdoches when she was four years old. She attended Nacogdoches High School, where she met Wilbur Woods, the love of her life, in Spanish class. She attended Stephen F. Austin University. Margie and Wilbur were married in 1942. They lived in Houston for 37 years, where Wilbur worked as an Electrical Engineer. Their daughter Cindy was born in 1949. Margie and Wilbur were very involved in the ministries of Garden Oaks Baptist Church during that time. Margie had a special love for children. She worked with children in some capacity from age 19 until she was 84. She taught at Temple Oaks Baptist School (mostly Kindergarten) for 26 years. She also worked in Children’s Church and Vacation Bible School. She wanted children to know how much Jesus loved them. In 1986, when Wilbur retired, he and Margie moved to Emerald Bay, Texas, on Lake Palestine. They had twenty wonderful years there together. Margie was very involved in community life, and she and Wilbur loved worshiping and ministering at Emerald Bay Church. She also was an active member of PEO and made many wonderful friendships through that organization. She often read to children at a local library. She enjoyed playing Mah Jongg, and also taught countless other ladies to play. She continued to play until she was 99 years old! Margie accepted Jesus as her Savior when she was fourteen years old. Her desire was always to show God’s love to others by her words and actions, and to serve the Father however He led. Even in her final two weeks on earth, she prayed with some of the aides in her assisted living facility, thanking God for the sweet people who cared for her so well. She will be remembered for her sweet smile, gracious demeanor, and encouraging words. Margie had a very deep love for her family. She prayed for each of them by name, every day. She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Berry and husband Bruce of Killeen; grandsons, Micah Berry and wife Laurie of Blowing Rock, North Carolina, Mark Berry and wife Carrie of Hutto, and Daniel Berry and wife Emily of West Lafayette, Indiana; great-grandsons, Brennan, Benjamin, Charlie, and Joshua; and great-granddaughters, Isabella and Adelyn. Margie loved music and wanted to keep singing until she went home to heaven. The last song she chose for herself and Cindy to sing together went back to the basics of her beliefs and strong faith. “Yes, Jesus loves me; the Bible tells me so.” If desired, Memorials may be made in Margie’s honor to Samaritan’s Purse, www.samaritanspurse.org
