Marguerite Dale

Marguerite Davis Dale, a longtime resident of Winona, Texas, died Feb. 10 at a Tyler hospice at age 79. An artist and community volunteer, she had been in ill health for several years. Born in Seattle, Washington, she was a daughter of William C. and Katharyne Graham Davis. She grew up primarily in Seattle, but attended high school in Cleveland, Ohio. During World War II she worked at Boeing Aircraft and a Seattle shipyard, before meeting and marrying Roy Wendell Dale of Winona while he served in the Navy. They married in September 1943. She moved to Winona before the end of the war, and lived there with her husband and children until 1965, when they moved to Denison, Tex. She returned to Winona in 1982 after she and her husband sold their business in Denison. Mr. Dale died in 1995. Known as "Margie", Mrs. Dale was active in community affairs in Winona, and was instrumental in establishing the senior center and meals-on-wheels program there in the late 1980s. She was a member of the Winona Baptist Church and served for a number of years as secretary of the Harris Creek Cemetery Association. She was a locally renowned watercolorist, and a member of the Southwest Watercolor Association for many years. In 1999, she was recognized as an "East Texan of the Week" by KLTV for her community service. In addition to her parents, a brother and her husband, Mrs. Dale was preceded in death by a son, Kirby G. Dale, who died in 1994. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Virginia D. Vinton, of Seattle; two daughters, Katharyne D. Rankin (Mrs. R.A. Rankin, Jr.) of San Antonio, and Monica D. Bratteli (Mrs. Steve Bratteli) of Longview; and four grandchildren, Ben and Corbin Bratteli of Longview, Allison Rankin of Laguna Beach, California, and Andrew Rankin of Raleigh, North Carolina Visitation will be at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, Tyler, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Winona at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 14, 2005 with Dr. Don Walker officiating. Interment will follow at Harris Creek Cemetery in Winona, Texas. Memorials may be made to Meals-On-Wheels Ministry, 3001 Robertson Road, Tyler, Texas 75701.
