Mary Pollard Heines

Mary, a native of Tyler, Texas, entered this world on a significant day, Texas Independence Day, March 2, 1932. She was born to Senator Tomas G. Pollard, Sr., and Edna Martin Pollard, growing up in the embrace of their farm on the historic Troup Highway. It was here, under the nurturing guidance of her mother, that Mary developed a passion for gardening, a lifelong pursuit that brought her immense joy and fulfillment. Rooted in the rich soil of Van Zandt County, where both her parents hailed from, Mary's early years were shaped by the close-knit communities of Edom and Wills Point. Family was the cornerstone of her life. Her fascination with family history led her to become actively involved in organizations such as the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT), where she cherished her role in preserving and celebrating her ancestral legacy for future generations of her family. Mary's academic journey was marked by exceptional achievement. Graduating as valedictorian from Tyler High School in 1949, she was hailed as the "most likely to succeed." Her pursuit of higher education took her to Stephens College and later to The University of Texas, where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority and earned a degree in Radio, Television, and Film in 1953. Venturing beyond the boundaries of her hometown, Mary embarked on a series of adventures that took her across the United States and Canada, eventually settling back in Tyler in 1962. Here, she embraced her role as the matriarch of her family and finding solace and purpose in her community. Mary's professional journey was one of passion and dedication. For over 25 years, she served as a commercial real estate property manager, leasing agent, and asset manager for Pollard-Heines buildings, forging lasting relationships with colleagues and clients alike. Beyond her professional pursuits, Mary was a devoted mother, grandmother, and volunteer. She found joy in hosting family gatherings, engaging in lifelong philanthropic endeavors with organizations such as the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO), and indulging in her favorite pastime, bridge. In the later years of her life, Mary cherished moments spent with loved ones, especially her grandchildren, affectionately known as "Mimi." Whether cheering on her grandchildren at basketball and soccer games, hosting gatherings in her home, or embarking on adventures across the globe with friends and family, Mary's presence was a source of unwavering strength and love. Mary is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Tomas G. Pollard, Jr. She is survived by her brother Jack W. Pollard (Janelle) of Tyler, her sons Blair Heines (Dina) of Scurry, Mayor Martin Heines (Michelle) of Tyler and Anna Maria, FL, and Clinton Heines, along with her cherished grandchildren, great-grandson, nieces, and nephews. In the hearts of those who knew her best, Mary's legacy as a steadfast rock and devoted family woman will endure, a testament to a life lived with grace, integrity, and boundless love. A graveside service for Mary will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler with Rev. Richard Luna officiating under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
