Mary Sonnier

Services for Mary Louise Sonnier, 64, of Tyler, will be held on Friday, July 16, 2010 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church with Father Tim Kelly officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Sonnier passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler. She was born July 24, 1945 in Port Arthur, to Roy and Ruth Neeb Barbay. Mary was raised in Port Arthur and graduated from Bishop Byrne High School in the top 10 of her graduating class. She was also in the Colleen Drum and Bugle Corp. Mary married in 1963 and then moved to Tyler where she remained. She retired from Sears as a department manager and was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church where she was an extraordinary Eucharistic Minister. She was passionate about her children and her grandchildren and their hobbies and activities. Mrs. Sonnier was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Jacki Sonnier and son Keith Sonnier. Mary is survived by her loving family including her husband of 47years, W.J. Sonnier of Tyler; daughter, Debbi Jones and husband Thomas of Tyler; mother-in-law, Dorothy Sonnier of Port Arthur; daughter-in-law, Wendy Sonnier of Fruitvale; siblings, Beverly LaFleur and husband John of Nederland, Wallace Barbay and wife Dot of Port Neches, Dutch Barbay and wife Phyllis of Port Arthur, Douglas Barbay and wife Judy of Nederland and Mike Barbay of Crosby; grandchildren, Ryan Jones, Mallori Jones Rieg, and Vivian Sonnier, all of Tyler; great-granddaughter Emily Grace Rieg; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Ryan Jones, Jimmy Barbay, Brian LaFleur, Mike Barbay, Gene Bruce and Anthony Vrba. Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Liberton and Joe Hague. Visitation is scheduled from 6:00 – 7:00 PM on Thursday, July 15, 2010 with a Rosary at 7:00 PM at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Hwy., Tyler, Texas 75703.
