Services for Maxine Doss Petty, 78, Tyler, are scheduled for 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at Stewart Family Funeral Chapel with Rev. Perry Petty and Rev. B. C. McCoy officiating. Burial will be in Cathedral In The Pines Cemetery under direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home. Mrs. Petty passed away Sunday, June 12, 2005 in Tyler. She was born January 13, 1927 to the late Marvin and Ada Doss. A longtime resident of Tyler, Maxine was a member of First Baptist Church. She has been active over the years in such service organizations as PTA, Women's Forum, and Tyler Civic Theatre. She volunteered with PATH and served as a tutor and library volunteer at Austin Elementary. Maxine is survived by her husband, Charles O. Petty of Tyler; daughter, Becky Davidson and husband, Paul of Charleston, South Carolina; sons, Chris Petty and wife, Kim, of Tyler, Clif Petty and wife, Joan, of Springfield, Missouri; grandchildren, Holly Ezell, Jonathan Hitt, Carmen Burch, Justin Petty, Camille Petty, Connor Petty, Hudson Petty, and Makayla Petty; great-grandchildren, Anna, Chase, and Cooper Ezell, and Madison Guthrie; brother, Bill Doss and wife, Joan, of Lufkin; nephews, Randall and Stuart Doss; niece, DeDe Kolb. Mrs. Petty was known for her generous spirit and steady faith in Jesus Christ. Her quiet times of Bible study and prayer flowed seamlessy into her daily life. She loved to make meals for large gatherings, to enjoy laughter around a game of forty-two or Mah Jong, and to help children feel loved and encouraged. Whether as dear wife, Mother, "Grannyma" or friend, she selflessly gave her time and energy to anyone who needed her. To help her husband Charles show appreciation for his co-workers at LaGloria's Tyler refinery, Maxine made as many as 52 pies and countless trays of cookies and candy for annual Christmas celebrations. A masterful seamstress, for several years she made Easter dresses for all the women and girls in her family. Maxine Doss and Charles Petty were married on September 5, 1946 and blessed with fifty-eight wonderful years together. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Hwy., south Tyler, 75703.
