Services for Melvin J. Stiefel, Jr., 67 of Tyler, will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church downtown Tyler with Dr. Michael Massar and Dr. Paul Powell officiating Burial will follow in Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery in Tyler under direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home Mr. Stiefel passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family, Saturday, September 20, 2008 at M.D. Anderson in Houston. Hewas born August 17, 1941 in Section, Alabama to Melvin J., Sr. and Thelma Grudger Stiefel. Mr. Stiefel was a prominent C.P.A. practicing for 47 years, and was a senior partner with Stiefel, Lyles and Allen Accounting Firm of Tyler. He was a long time active member and Deacon of First Baptist Church. He was a past officer and director in the Tyler Jaycees, past director and treasurer of the local chapter of the American Cancer Society. He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, and East Texas Estate Planning Council. Melvin enjoyed classic cars, motorcycles and Florida Beaches. He was an accomplished black belt in the martial art of Judo. He especially enjoyed his family and his grandchildren. Mr. Stiefel was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Patrick Ford Stiefel and sister, Ellen Ruth Stakes. Melvin is survived by his loving family including his wife of 47 years Rena Brunt Stiefel of Tyler, son, Keith Stiefel and wife Shannon of Bullard, daughter, Kim Stiefel Young and husband Chris of Frisco, grandchildren, Brandon Stiefel, Nicole Stiefel, Blayne Stiefel and Aubry Stiefel of Bullard, Sidney Young and Andrew Young of Frisco; stepmother, Alice Johnson of East Bernard; sister-in-law, Pat Brunt of Dallas; aunt, Evelyn Stiefel of Section, Alabama; and numerous nieces, nephews, clients and friends. Pallbearers will be Pierre de Wet, Hank Crouse, Dr. Maxey Abernathy, Rick Allen, Tom Lyles and Denver Crawley. Honorary Pallbearers will be Deacons of First Baptist Church, Stiefel, Lyles and Allen P.C., John Payne, Spencer Miller and Dr. Vitaly Margulis. Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.
